Also, used to be Penny wise and Dollar foolish but so many complain we really have cents, not pennies. For some reason I keep thinking of where I heard "Shave and a Haircut, 2 bits" SAP: those are really interesting. Where did you find that info?

One of my favourites:
Don't spoil the ship (or sheep) for a ha'porth of tar.
Ha'porth is a halfpenny worth. The usual reference is to a ship that may sink because of penny-pinching. The more unusual reference to the sheep is that cuts and sores on sheep were treated with a dollop of tar to prevent infection, to lose one is another example of penny-pinching.
Cockney rhyming slang:
"I'm off for a thrupenny bit" (threepenny). Refering to the act of going to the toilet. I'll leave it to you to work it out.
