I advise you to stay clear. I have over 5000 ounces of Engelhard items. Below is my explanation.

The Bar Looks close. But a couple things do not look right from the picture. This bar is what they call the triangle Logo bar. Named for the triangle in the A, as shown in the picture. These were also one of the only logos used not to have the box around Engelhard. From the picture, it also appears to have a triangle present in the D. This is NOT typical for the font used by Engelhard. Neither is the block present around the stamped serial numbers. These were typically stamped incuse, and only the serial number is present, not the marking surrounding them.

These bars are also famous for being drilled and filled with lead. They will pass rare earth magnet testing, because they will still be non-magnetic, and they will have an outer shell of silver that will still slow down the magnet's slide as silver does. The ONLY way to tell, is a specific gravity test.

I'm really happy y'all know what your talking about...

I'm actually thinking about making my first apex purchase... I was thinking a quarter eagle and a couple 10 oz bars...

Part of me wants to wait and see if silver drops..and part of me think it won't go below 35... ahh so many decisions

I've moved a few 100 oz bars in the last year. It went pretty fast and easy actually.

All depends on demand.

Some do have a COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) but most don't. An assay card is generally a small card that has the bar or round sealed in it and large bars are not conducive to such packaging.

As with any purchase, a little common sense goes a long way. I would not start my PM purchases with a 100oz bar from craigslist. There are many other good options that are worry-free.

Ya, I'm not gonna get it, knowing my luck it would be lead filled.

My town has a local coin show this sunday that I might go to... I really wanna roll of walking liberties...

And I've started a small collection of 1/10 oz gold eagles, I was thinking about adding another one. What do y'all think, I'm scarred silver is going to drop more... but part of me think its as low as it is going to get

Good move, to much to lose. Get it from a credited dealer with a good rep, can't go wrong there, at one of those shows. I would not think it would take much watching and looking around, to spot the dealer with the best REAL products for the best price.....

Wise choice on not getting it. When dealing with that kind of money, just go to a dealer or show (if you can) and make a transaction. I just feel the peace of mind that comes along with it is priceless. I know there are some honest buyers and sellers out there, but when dropping that kind of money I'd rather be safe.

Its for a local gold and silver place, they were advertising it on Craig's list to get some exposure, so I called them, wanted me to call back if I wanted it, but haven't, haha

Just got back from the coin show.

I didn't spend 3500$, but I ended up getting a 1/10 oz gold eagle proof, a bag of 10$ face walkng liberty, and 10$ face bag of Mercury dimes.

Normally I stay away from proofs but the gu offered it to me for 175$, and I thought that was a pretty good deal.

The two bags of silver came out pretty close to spot at around 250$ each. I plan on selling this if silver goes up. But I feel like I'm doing pretty well for a college student.
Rest in Peace

The technical term for a $10 bag of walkers is "roll". A bag is $1000 face.

Yeah good decision IMHO to skip the 100oz bar on GL. I think even if it was real that a little too big for my liking. I'd rather have $3500 worth of silver eagles or 90% US coinage.
