I thought we were supposed to have all dead presidents on our coins. Just can not find records of Susan B. Anthony when she was president. And as to those things, in banks by me you could get as many as you want. They just can not get rid of them.

don't think there is a rule about only dead presidents being on coins because I can't remember Franklin being one either.

That's true for this series of coins. You have to have served as President and be dead by at least 5(?) years to be on a coin. One President will get TWO coins. Grover Cleveland will be on the second and forth coins released in 2012, because he was the only President to serve 2 non-consecutive terms of office (1885-1889 and 1893-1897). The last 2 Presidential $1 coins will be Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford in 2016, unless they end the program before then. I'm really starting to wonder if they'll stop the program, but I hope they don't. The next series of $1 coins should feature you and me, The American Tax Payer. I wouldn't mind being on a dollar coin as long as they did away with the rule that you have to be dead by 5 years.
ANA ID: 3203813 - CONECA ID: N-5637 Clean a coin that may be worth collecting? Please DON'T! When in doubt, leave it dirty!!

Your area must have a surge of SBAs because I rarely see one in circulation now a days. I find that on an average day of dollars from circulation, 75% are Presidential dollars and 25% are the Sacagawea dollars. Once in a while there may be one or two SBAs, but I never find Eisenhower dollars in circulation.

Last time I saw an SBA in circulation was 2 or 3 years ago.

Maybe, but they are a nice change of pace to the usual stuff in pocket change. And personally, I only find the obverse pretty ugly; the reverse is not bad

They're usually readily available where I live. Its fun confusing people with them though. The banks are more than happy to get them of their hands though. Before I can even get up to the tellers booth s/he's already offering me $1 coins.

Quote: You have to have served as President and be dead by at least 5(?) years to be on a coin. The President has to be deceased for no less than 2 years. So, they will skip the Carter and make the Reagen coin unless Carter checks out before 2014.

At one of my banks the tellers say that they get a lot of people coming in asking for the Presidential dollars, but they must be the exception.

i can tell you now, I am snagging several rolls of the Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Reagan, Ike, both Roosevelts and Truman. Not because I like all of them (especially NOT that hick fool Truman) but I am pretty sure those are going to be of value.

I remember when all you would get from the train station were SBA's. The first time I received them. I put a $20 into the machine for 84 cents and 19 SBA's popped out. I just stood their looking at them, thinking a camera crew was going to jump out. But something about them looked familiar, when I saw the date. I had a flash back of being 2-4 years old and my mother playing with coins, teaching me their amounts and always saying, But this one... (as she reaches in her purse to get it) this one right here is special...See these numbers here 1979. Thats the year you were born! So mommy loves these. LOL So even though It was a neausense. When I got home and showed her all the special finds. It was one of those moments. lol yaa I'm kinda a Mommas Boy, The good times.

Nothing against the woman and maybe IRL she looked much better, but that is one ugly coin. Even the recycled reverse leaves me thinking they could have done much, much better.
When I go to the bank I get dollars if nothing else to spend, these things need to be in circulation. The tellers say that the real interest is around Easter time when people want to put them in the eggs for an Easter Egg hunt. (never could do that with an Ike!)
It would save a good bit of money to eliminate printing $1 bills. Just look at Canada as an example, their loonies and toonies are also quite interesting and they spend well (actually worth more at the moment than the US dollar) and most importantly they have saved a lot of money on the switchover from paper. I venture to say its business interests like the vending industry that would hate it.

The vending machine industry is one of the main supporters of the elimination of paper. Bill acceptors are expensive to replace and frequently need repair. Not so much with a Coin mech. Most vending machines made since the 80s can accept dollar coins with the flip of a switch.
