Cartwheel Penny - Leaves & Variations

bodo New Member United States 3 Posts	Posted 12/18/2011 11:22 pm I'm brand new to this forum and hope someone can help me further identify my cartwheel penny. I understand that there are variations in the number of leaves (10 or 11) and details of the ship on the obverse. From these pictures, can someone tell me what I have or provide a link that explains the variations? This coin is: 36 mm in diameter 3.5 mm thick 28.8 gm (seems a bit heavy from what I've read. ilikeikes Pillar of the Community United States 1205 Posts	Posted 12/20/2011 1:52 pm I believe you have the 10-leaf variety...my 2011 Book on GB coins by Perkins states an 11-leaf and a 10-leaf are found, both have the same rough values...10-leaf fine is 12 pounds, 11-leaf fine is 14 pounds..nice specimen..thats a lot of copper. DVCollector Bedrock of the Community United States 10045 Posts	Posted 12/20/2011 3:54 pm This coin is much better than a Fine. I would say a gVF, and the rims are especially nice! All too often, these coins have dinged rims. On online UK source puts a VF at GBP 50 or $78. Given the excellent rims, I would say this coin deserves that, if not more. Report this Post to the Staff
