Hi everyone.
First off- great site and input from everyone.
As usual, I'm looking for some help.
Long story short. My dad had collected some coins over the years.
He died a good few years ago but I always kept his box of coins,
The last few weeks I've been out of work with a broken ankle so I decided
I'd eventually have a good look at the coins. So I separated them out
And recorded years and quantities.
I'm not looking to sell or anything. I'd just like to know
If someone is kind enough to tell me what I have. I've done some research
But the values I have seen range from 2£ to..... Well everything.
I haven't seen any coin stand out in value so I'm wondering as a collection of maybe
I have something. They are all circulated.
I'd say the overall quality is average. Some good conditions. Some not so good.
Some are pretty new too. I just recorded everything in the box.
I wasn't sure what section to put this topic in, but as most coins are Irish or English penny's I decides on here.
Hopefully you could have a quick look and see if anything stands out.
Thanks again, the coins are:

Welcome ot the forum. Hope we can help.

The reason the values you're finding for your coins are ranging all over the place is mainly because the value a coin has to a collector depends greatly on its condition. You say they are "circulated", but that's kind of imprecise. On the other hand, taking pictures of every single one of the coins and posting them here would be very time-consuming on your part, and I suspect not worth the while for 99 percent of the coins.

So, I'll indicate which coins are possibly of interest; if you could post pictures of those ones, we could give a better indication of value.

British pennies: most of the modern ones are extremely common, worth not much more than their scrap metal value unless they are in absolutely pristine mint-fresh condition. Some 1919, 1918 and 1912 pennies were struck in mints other than The Royal Mint and have little mintmarks on the reverse, below the line Britannia is seated on, to either side of the date. Those mintmarked coins are scarcer. There are some scarce varieties of the 1861 penny, too; we'd need to see a pic.

Other British: I don't see anything potentially scarce in the halfpennies. In the rest, the "silver" coins that are dated 1946 or earlier are actually made of silver, and will be worth more than the later ones on that basis alone. The pound and 20p coins are still worth full face value in Britain.

Irish: you've got a nearly-complete date set of pennies; you're only missing 1931, 1933, 1943 and the scarce 1940. But none of the ones you have are scarcer dates. The 1940 halfpenny isn;t as scarce as the penny, but may still be of interest. The 1935 sixpence might be good if it's in better-than-average condition. There isn't a 1944 sixpence in my catalogue; check that date again.

Other World: I can't see anything obviously rare there, though some of them are a bit mysterious. America didn't make half-cents in 1973, for example, and the coins described as "centimes" or "francs" could be French, Swiss, Belgian or numerous other places. If you want more information about where some of those coins are actually from, post pics of them in the "World Coins and Commemoratives" forum.

The 1899 American dime is silver, and could be worth more depending on condition. Post pics of it in the "Classic US coins" part of the forum for better-informed opinions.

Hope this helps a little.

Thanks very much for the reply sap.
That's was more than helpful.
I had an idea that I had nothing special, suppose you always hope "just maybe"
I was always going to keep the coins regardless of value either way.
Next week I'll post up some pictures maybe.
I don't see the mint mark on any of the English penny's.
And you're right about the 1944 6pence. Mistake on my part.
I also want to post 2 pictures of other unrecognisable coins.
They are bigger than the pennies and I think the Brittania is facing the other way?
I remember from an older coin we misplaced that this was the way too?
As I said. Really bad condition. That's about all I can make out.
Thanks again

Sounds like it could be George III. And I mean the opposite facing of Britannia. Size? ... Does "cartwheel" say anything to you?
