1985-D Doubled Die Reverse / DDR - Unknown Variety Or Die Deterioration?

tarheelblueboy New Member United States 9 Posts	Posted 01/17/2012 10:21 pm Okay, I may finally have something here. It's not a variety I could find anything about - 1985-D DDR. The coin is somewhat worn out, but you can see a lot of extra especially in AMERICA and what appears to be doubling. There's faint creases in many of the letters - probably was an incredible coin when it was unc. - coin's in bad shape now though. Even the worn out letters look to be doubled. Look closely at the you in "UNITED" and it appears to have a slight spread as well. Memorial looks very strange, seems to be doubled, especially in the top left corner of the memorial. Let me know what you think! I hope I'm right this time! Note that photos were taken with a scanner, and I randomly enhanced some of them for better contrast. If you've decided its a doubled die, give me some more information if you know some. The memorial looks to have strong doubling in that top left corner. If I took pictures with a real camera maybe you would see something different. There are shadows like it might be Die Deterioration, but they seem to be outside the doublin. The A and the C appear to have die chipping on top (if die chipping is a word). I figure that would come from the letters being pushed together during hubbing, considering I see creases there too. I'm completely new to this, and I appreciate you help! I was actually thinking that might be the case, but hindsight is 20/20 :D. I'll look closer once I actually get my loupe in the mail, doing this with a magnifying glass and a scanner is not the ideal way.
