I have seen the coinstar thread on here, and ever since, have approached the machines hopeful and excited... and have always been disappointed. Today, I went to dump some nickels I searched today and found about $15 worth of silver... including the oldest quarter I've found in the wild (by a long shot). Good day!

I haven't found anything but foreign coins in the reject trays lately. I used to find silver quite often.

Congrats!
Like most, I've always drawn a blank on the Coinstar reject tray. One of these days...

Very nice find! I check every Coinstar that I see, and only once have I found silver, a 1964d dime. Odd though; I find a number of Wheat cents in Coinstar trays. Anyone else have this happen to them?

Most CS are set tight enuf to reject silver and wheats. Push come to shove, it's a defense against being a dump for thieves.
I've found silver dimes twice, and a commemorative toonie.

So you're saying the machines can sort the difference in silver and clad? And the wheat coins? Why not prior 1982 pennies as well? And then how are silver halves atill found. Just wondering and trying to understand. Thanks

Every vending machine can "sort" silver, and most do not accept it. Ever get that stupid quarter that won't go in the machine? Chances are it was silver. And I actually think they accept most copper... (coinstar)
