After reading the post on searching coin rolls, I spent a day in and out of the community banks picking up half dollar rolls, going thru them and turning them back in. Ya, during the work week, one of the perks of working for yourself. Went thru about $600 in halves and found 12 silvers, 7 at 90% and 5 at 40%. Two interesting side bars were that any roll that had folded ends had not special in them and that the color on the mint (?) rolled wrapper effected the findings. It is my surmise that the rolls that had been in circulation and then wrapped with the fold over end style had been pretty well looked at and had little chance of producing anything of interest. Even more interesting was the color coding on the mint style wrapper. I found two types. One was a white wrapper with a very light lemon yellow coloring on it. These produced nothing. The other was as white wrapper with dark green stripes on each end with an occasional brown strip mixed in. These wrapped coins produced silver. Obviously these color codes mean the date (year)of wrapping. The longer they have sat in the bank vault, the better the chance that they have some silver in them. Does anyone know anything about these color codes and what they indicate? Also, has anyone else experienced this. Jim

Jim I have also seen something like what you are describing, but that is not always the case. Last week I had a roll with the ends folded like you mention. The whole roll was a keeper 7 1964's and 13 40%'s. So I would still check them all. I did go through 18 rolls today where the ends were folded and found nothing.I have no idea about the color codes. I bought some rolls that were white with blue writing they were marked Brinks. I did find one 40% half out of 8 rolls of those. BenVA

Well I go through rolls each week in the white rolls most of the time I find UNC coins like 2001 Kennedy. Or I will find a few 70's and 80's very few silver in those rolls, however in the old rolls that are in blue rolls I find most of my silver coins I also find silver in the brown paper rolls. I believe the old blue paper rolls were from the 1970's and those rolls are being turned in by people just unloading there coin. But you never know that is why you should check all rolls no matter what color the paper is. Last year I picked up some rolls and one roll was hand made out of white paper and in that roll was 11 1964 Kennedy and 9 Franklin.

Bruce.
