Right now the only coin on my mind where I can spend upwards of $500 would be a 1914 D Lincoln Cent. It would finish off my Lincoln Cent Collection.

I'm currently looking for a nice Draped Bust Large Cent for my type set and $500 would buy a decent problem free one!

For a US type set, a MS63/64 1921 Peace dollar, or a better date MS Carson City Morgan: either the '85, '90, or '91. A classic $5.00 gold coin, probably the incuse Indian, AU+.

Interesting views from everyone.
I think this sums it up for me:

Quote:
I would buy a key date coin in a series in which I collect in the highest grade that I could afford.

At the moment I'm thinking Peace dollars - 1921 or 1928

The best 1914 D Lincoln I could get, since it is not likely I could get a 1909 S VDB

Seated dollar (no motto) as the final coin in my type set (aside from future upgrades of course). I am currently looking for one in low grade (I posted on here in my want list....) So I would be able to buy a pretty nice one for $500.

That would work pretty well for me.

That works well too.. and there might even be some $$ left over for a giant ice cream sundae to celebrate!

I'd spend it to replace the Indian Quarter Eagle I sold for $250 years ago...

Just a bit over $500 ($570) but this is what I would get

why? because I have no gold coin at the moment, and this one has a really nice design and a good price for 1/4ounce compared to other OVER priced RCM products

The highest grade CC Seated dime or quarter I could find for $500 is tops on the list.
