I would like to take some time over the course of the next 25 days to show off my top coins as others in this forum have done recently. I have learned much over the last few weeks, so I hope that this thread can invoke even more learning in the next three weeks. My collection is relatively small compared to others here, and the overall quality of the coins I have is lower. Despite this I love them all dearly and I think I have done well for only being 20 years old. I will start first with my higher-quality, more common coins and work my way up into the rarer coins I own, so sit back and enjoy!

#1: I shall start with this nice example of the emperor Crispus.

Acg's-Top-25-Roman-Coins
Crispus, Thessalonica 320 A.D.

Obv: CRISPVS NOB CAES, laureate and curiassed bust right
Rev: VIRTVS EXERCIT, two captives seated back to back on either side of a banner. Inscription on banner VOT XX, S on left and F on right.
•TS•Δ• in exergue.

This coin has much of its original silvering remaining, making it one of my best-preserved coins of Crispus.

You make me feel old. Hey, compared to you, I am old. Just think, you have a lifetime ahead of you to collect these beautiful pieces of ancient art.

Nice Crispus

Man! If you have only been collecting 20 years ACG, I have a lot of catching up to do! I don't think I have 20 months in!
However, with these wonderful threads, showcasing top 25's, my knowledge has increased incredibly!

Good start with the Crispus! I might have one in my unattributed uncleans I think.

Good on you for taking the reigns on the next 25!

Actually I think half the fun of these threads is Steve's comments! Keep up the good work Steve!

I like the color of this coin. It has very sharp details on the front and back. Nice coin.

Thanks for the replies and compliments guys! I think that Crispus looks very intimidating on this coin. Perhaps it is the big 'ole suit of armor he has on!

Steve, my username was meant to be a pun. I'm a guy collecting ancient coins, but someday I will be an ancient guy collecting coins. I wanted a name that would confuse people haha. Though I must admit that pic very well could be what I look like when I get to my silver years. Just remember, we are all mere babies in time compared to the coins that we collect!

Hey, that looks like Howard Stern at 90 years old. lol

That's a nice Crispus coin and it looks like a uncommon reverse as well.

A pretty nice coin. I like that reverse.

Same here. I am 20 as well and only started collecting ancients a year ago. My collection is, quality and quantity-wise, not as impressive as the collections of some others on the ancients forum, but I also still very much enjoy what I have acquired so far.

It's awesome to hear that there are a few "young-guns" collecting ancient coins ...

Ummm, on and off, I've collected Canadian coins and paper-money during my entire life, but as you've probably read, I've just started collecting ancients during the last few months ...

Oh, and please don't get me wrong => I love my Canadian collection (it rocks), but I really wish that I'd been fortunate enough to be introduced to ancients at an earlier age!!

Twenty, wow => that's such a nice and early age (20 years old!!) ... sadly, I was definitely spending my coin-cash on other addictions when I was 20 years old!!

... you are way ahead in the good ol' coin-game! (congrats)

I'm 43 years old. I figure I have plenty enough time to build a decent collection of ancient coins.

I did collect coins when I was younger, but lost my entire collection. Didn't start collecting again until recently.

ancientcoinguy,

My son is 20 yrs old, I can't get him into coin's, when I was 8 or 9 my Uncle would give me Franklin half dollars, Mom would take me up to local coin shop.
My first coin was a 1943 Wheat cent, I still have that coin, it's a bit rusty.
I hope that you and you Dad collect together.
Your first coin looks very good, nice start, looking forward to your next post's.
I belong to 3 coin clubs, we call you YN's, we need more young people in Hobie....

I always found the story of Crispus one of the greatest tragedies of late Roman history. Had he lived, I suspect Roman history would have been much different. I wonder if Constantine would have divided the empire 4 ways or perhaps left it to the one of his sons capable of the job. It would at least made the civil wars between the brothers 'different'.

This is a nice coin in all respects but there are a lot of nice portraits of Crispus available in several styles.

Oops! Thought you said you'd been collecting 20 years. That's what happens when you get to be THREE TIMES your age ACG! You can't read and need better glasses! I've just started collecting, and love it!
