Nice Crispus!
Wish I would have started collecting years ago!
I am turning 43 this year. Have been interested in history for forever. Found out that real honest to goodness ancient coins were for sale for resonable prices a little over a year ago! I was like, "HOLY WOW " when I found out!

And now I have a coin habit!

City Commemorative, Thessalonica 336 - 337 A.D.

Obv: CONSTAN-TINOPOLIS, laureate, helmeted, and mantled bust of Constantinopolis left, holding scepter
Rev: Victory standing on prow of a ship, holding a scepter and leaning on a shield
SMTSε in exergue.

This is my nicest and subsequently my favorite city commemorative in my collection. While the first half of the obverse legend is slightly off the flan, the condition of the reverse more than makes up for it. The image of Victory seems to jump out at you from the soft green patina. I should also mention that according to RIC this coin is an R2.

Nice Commemorative ACG!

One thing about collecting ancients, there are so many side routes to take. Whether they be specializing in Septimius Severus Eastern mints, Imperial or Provincial Romans, or Commemorative issues, along with Greek, Biblicals or Byzantines ... there is something for everyone. I don't think one person can collect all the different ancients available.

Although Dougsmit might be an exception!

After seeing Sap's display, I might include him as well as collecting coins from all ages!

I've probably stepped on many toes with that statement. It's just there are so many coins available for collection that it makes your head spin!

Ummmm, I certainly don't want to be a pill, but as you know I don't have that many coins in my ancient collection (I'm pretty sure that I'm now up to 48 total coins), so I may as well "flex" and pose-down whenever I get a chance!! ... right?

... I absolutely love my version of this coin!!

=> it's my "Lucy Van Pelt" special!!

A note of interest about ancientcoinguy's nice example of an SMTSE commemorative. Many of them that you see have a bust that looks like this one below, rather heavy and thick. His reverse has a similar stubby prow with a ball on the end.

Acg's-Top-25-Roman-Coins

His coin has a nice delicate bust, more like the ones you see from the Delta officina, like this one.

Food for thought about the engraving at these two officinas,... maybe.

oh, no you didnt' => as I prefaced => I wasn't trying to "dis-respect" ancientcoindude's specimen

Acg's-Top-25-Roman-Coins

=> I was merely basking in the beauty of my own specimen ...

I agree => the beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder (I wasn't trying to trump our hero ... my bad)

=> knock 'er dead, ancientcoinelderlyman!!

Ummm, or maybe you weren't trying to be being agressive? ... huhh? ... my bad, either way (your coin rocks, ancientcoinbaby!!)
