Honda, do you know anyone with one of those kitchen vacuum sealers? That would probably be your best bet for removing atmosphere that could tarnish your new investment. I don't know about the content of the plastic, but it hopefully wouldn't be much worse than the Ziplocs you are currently using. Maybe some chemists could chime in on that.

I like the idea what do yo have to loose, other then the small amount of cash put into these compared to what we all pour into G & S.... Probably a good plan for everyone to stack some of these just in case, again small investment with a chance for a big pay off later perhaps.... Nice looking bars, an Provident and all these ebay sellers moving these at big premiums realize there is a market for copper hoarders who truly believe it has the potential to be the next silver.... Back at the turn of the century 12 years back you could tell many silver would be close to $30 bucks today an had pushed as high as $49.75 in recent years, and they would tell you that you were dreaming....

Makes sense, Hawk. All commodities are on an ever-arcing climb to consistently higher prices sometime in the future, due to their relative finiteness, barring some scientific breakthrough that makes them obsolete.

They look cool tarnishing will be an issue. I think the vacuum bags sound like they might work. At $14 a kilogram when spot value is a little over $7 seems to be a huge premium. Like paying $3000 for a krugerrand Although they are awesome wouldnt copper pennies or scrap wire be a much cheaper way to invest in copper?

Enworb may have nailed it. I saw Ton an Andrew the odd ball storage locker buyers who were willing to go as high as 1200 on what looked like a boring building supply lot, but if you have the means to move those pay of big time. He fired off a per foot price an said we got like several thousand feet an it added up rel nice, via huge spools of copper wire....
The bar has a collector factor however, where the wire does not. But which is more PRACTICAL, again easily won by the spools of copper wire....
In the end copper rolls may not me the sexy investment, but it may be the wisest when talking copper....

Quote: All commodities are on an ever-arcing climb to consistently higher prices sometime in the future, Eventually virtually all higher priced metals will fall significantly so long as one doesn't take inflation into account. The reason being that as of right now we are limited to what supplies of each commodity we have on earth. Within 100 years with the advent of asteroid mining, prices of gold, platinum, ect will drop like a rock. Given that most things that use copper wiring are more efficient with silver, and most that use silver are more efficient with gold. As prices fall for gold, the use of gold will increase causing demand for silver in electronics to drop as well, ect. Now as I said this may not happen for quite some time, but for long term investors it might be something to take into account as it could happen quite sooner than that depending on technological advances and whatnot. - XoG

That's one way to look at it. The other is that as our fiat currency becomes worth less and less, it buys less and less real goods. Example: in 1964, a gallon of gasoline cost about 40 cents. Today, that same gallon costs $4, more or less... we paid $4.22 a gallon for unleaded regular today at one of the cheaper stations in our town. Anyway, those 4 silver dimes contain about 0.29 oz. of silver or $8.68 worth at $30 an oz. Seen in that light, $4 a gallon gas at less than 1/2 price is cheap.

I dont think we will be mining asteroids any time soon. We cant afford it.
If I wasnt putting all my money into silver coins, I would consider copper.

In 1964, that gallon of gasoline cost 40c, but those 4 dimes today would set you back $8, while a gallon of gas is only running around $3-4

Also, how is mining asteroids going to be remotely cost effective? It costs thousands of dollars per pound to get stuff into orbit, probably double that to get to an asteroid. Then thousands to send the mined stuff back to earth. Unless you know of asteroids that are pure gold, I don't see how it would pay off.
Also, even if the asteroids were pure gold, you would crash the price bringing much metal back, and there is a rather high risk of your spacecraft having a problem and failing. No, unless someone figures out a much cheaper way to fuel space vehicles and get them into space, space mining is going to be a pipe dream.

There are a couple entities out there that have been gathering investment for developing asteroid mining, even one of the co-founders of google has dumped money into one such project. http://www.space.com/15395-asteroid...sources.htmlThe biggest hindrance isn't actually getting mining equipment into orbit, its actually getting it back to earth that's the bigger problem but there are other private companies working on that problem as well. Rhodium, Osmium and other ultra rare metals are likely the first to be mined in space. And certain classifications of asteroids are nearly all metal.

Seems like someone posted not long back on that proposed Google project, an seems like big names like James Cameron were on board....
I heard today on a bit of a different subject that BP has bought a new machine which separates oil from water, and one of the main figures involved to get it all started was Kevin Costner....
Apparently one of the Baldwin brothers sold his stock to early an missed the boat an now is suing the rest. Costner was quoted as saying something like it was a shame and a frivolous suit...
My point, is it is interesting that some of these guys who have gotten rich in Hollywood, are now looking to do bigger things with their profits....
Does this mean Sean Penn should be appointed as the USA ambassadors to foreign affairs lol. I don't think so, but others like Cameron may end up making a big difference with their capitol before it is all said an done....
And lastly, to think humans are not gonna find a way to get those precious medal back to Earth cost effectively one day (esp the real rare ones), obvious have underestimated the determination of a species that never fails to amaze me with its ability to create war an pain, but also show amazing abilities for engineering an scientific genius. Such as Hitler an the Nazis on the evil end, but also has an amazing ability to create fantastic contraptions/inventions which also never fail to boggle my mind....
Humans share the same determination as an army of ants whose home you smash with your foot, only to come right back an rebuild it not long after....
Watch the time lapse computer generated video of the new trade center going up, and you will see humans will find a way to overcome any barriers put before them....
Even if that means building a tower into space complete with an elevator to send the PMs back down to Earth, lol....

You could buy a pack of cucumber seeds and a pack of tomato seeds and grow them this summer and realize a very huge profit. Do this every year and it would mean thousands.!.! Plus, you don't have to store the Copper, Silver, etc., just eat or sell.
