Just getting into foreign silver coins and would like opinions as to which series to collect. I like the maple leaf, especially the privy issues, the Britannicas, the Pandas and the Australian coins. However, cannot collect all of them because of limited funds and age (74). How about some more experienced collectors give me their opinion as to how to proceed. Thanks for looking and possibly responding. Luskie

Why not put a world type set together and collect one of each. And then work on completing a set of one country. I know they are all wonderful and hard to choose. Opps Sorry by the way welcome to the Forum.

That is an extremely difficult question to answer. If I was collecting bullion only, then I would go for the Canadian Maple Leaf, they are always great value for money.

However, if I was purchasing for design, for aesthetic purposes, then I would choose either the Australian Kangaroo series or some Brittanias, as I love the look of these coins.

But then again, American Silver Eagles are good value with the added bonus of an enduring and classic design. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that they are all beautiful and all worth collecting.

I guess you need to decide why you are purchasing the silver, as bullion, in which case you can also get some nice rounds, or as a collectible series, in which case a yearly design change is always interesting.

Many thanks for the input of some of the members. I certainly do appreciate your comments. I like the maple leafs because they really contain more silver than the eagles. Also the eagles are of the same each year wherein the maple leafs have the changing face of the queen and the addition of some privy issues on the reverse. Sort of makes for a challenging series.
Rest in Peace

I collect the ASE's, Maple Leafs, Britannias, kookaburras, and Australian Lunar Coins.

They are all beautiful. I would have a heck of a time deciding which is my favorite.

The Britannias have differing reverses, which makes for a very attractive display.
