I have a 1984 gold Maple Leaf Canadian coin. It's 1 oz .9999 and $50 face value on it. I'm new to all this and just would like to sell it locally. Does anyone know any good reputable dealers in the DC/VA/MD area? I see that this is commonly referred as bullion and tied to the current price of gold. What can I expect to get from a dealer in relation to the current spot price? Does the condition of the coin matter? It's not scratched up or anything, but it's not mint either. Am I better off ebaying it?

Yes, that's the same price APMEX is offering on their website. Would I expect to receive more or less than APMEX from a local dealer? How about on ebay? Does the condition of the coin matter when it's bullion?

Condition doesn't matter much. The final bid price on ebay will be higher, but after fees it will probably be less than a good local dealer.

If you went to Kitco today (06/18/2012) in downtown Montreal, you would get $ 1,665.24 for it.

1984 Gold Maple Leafs (GML) predate when the RCM minted GMLs in all common fractions (1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz, 1/10oz, 1/20oz), so there might be specific collectors out there. If you are not in a hurry for cash, I would suggest listing it on ebay at say $1900. Just might find yourself a buyer, and $1900 should put you over $1700 after the fees.

That is, of course, if the coin is in good condition. Condition does matters, as if the coin is banged up, it looses all value as a coin.

I wouldn't worry about finding a good dealer so much either. Just know the going price (check on kitco, APMEX, etc.) when you are negotiating.
