Just visited the Gatewest site to check a coin's price and noticed they are offering two new War of 1812 coins. One is gold, one is silver -- they weigh 1 kilogram each.
First time I'm seeing these coins for sale.

Gatewest is selling the Silver coin for $ 2,249.95 The gold one says "call for price". The Mint does sell other 2012 Kilo gold coins for $ 69,000 so I would surmise that Gatewest's price will be around the same. http://store.gatewestcoin.com/cgi/v...7822H&site=1Its not the prettiest website out there but one thing it is is FAST. I'll take a simple and fast website over a "pretty" one so full of flash that it takes over a minuet just to load any day of the week.

Only thing I want to know about the war of 1812 is when the American's will admit they lost a war to a small province that had little in weapondry on American home soil.
Note that I have studied stories from both sides and contemporary accounts of why it happened.
On the coins; not bad although the mint could easily have done better.

Funny enough there wasn't any details 5 minutes earlier. They must have updated their website as we speak.
Thanks.

Interesting. It looks like gatewest has an exclusive on this coin. http://www.gatewestcoin.com/press.htmlThe coins look very nice. Too bad about the fat mole man. I guess you have to keep historically accurate though.

They have had these coins on their website for a month, but they just didn't have the link up yet.

I like the coin and think they did a nice job with the design based on the original Peace medal. George III was not the most handsome of Britain's Kings, so don't "shoot the artist." I also like the maple leaf and crossed swords mark on the coin's obverse - a nice touch! If the silver version wasn't priced at roughly 250% of its melt value, I would likely be an eager buyer. However...
