Only conclusive test to separate the coppernickel clad from the silver clad is a specific gravity test. the weights are close enough and the mint tolerances are wide enough that weight is not a conclusive test. A copper nickel clad can weigh as much as 11.79 grams and a 40% silver can weigh as little as 11.1 grams. So any weight between 11.1 and 11.79 could be either one.
SG for for copper nickel clad is 8.92, for the 40% it is 9.53 and it isn't too difficult to do an SG test to an accuracy of +/- .1 (Just make sure you don't trap bubbles on the coin when you do your weight in water.) Getting that second decimal place though is a real bear.
