The theme of Smackdown XIV is any purchase on one day from a single seller this year (Since Jan. 1, 2012) where the total (including shipping) is $50 or less. This could be one coin up to $50, or two or more bought at one time from one seller that total $50 or less. [You are on your honor about the expense, and uncleaned coins you cleaned up don't count, since your labor adds to their value.]
Entries Begin Immediately and submissions end at Monday at 11:00 pm Eastern time and voting will last two days and end at 11:00 pm EST USA, Wednesday September 12, 2012.
1) At most two entries per member. 2) Voting: Vote for three in order of preference, Gold (3pts), Silver (2pts), Bronze (1pt). 3) Host computes the vote totals and announces the winner. Host may enter, but cannot be the winner. Winner chooses next Smackdown subject and is the next host. 4) You do not have to enter a coin to vote but please do try to enter something. 5) Base your votes on any criteria you like 6) Final decision if two pairs have the same score and the same number of golds will be the hosts choice. 7) Enjoy.
Let the games begin! -- Warren

Perhaps my favorite for $48 shipped. The coin came described as: Macedonia, Alexander III 336-323 BC AE17, 5.67 gr Sear 6739 It's also described elsewhere as four chalkoi or hemiobol. Since it's a Gorytos type, it may be minted in western Asia Minor, possibly an Alexander III lifetime issue. M.J. Price 322, Müller 1699.

Here is an example which cannot win because I am the host. Silver, 8-7 mm, hemiobol, 0.23 grams. Tiny! Greek c. 450-410 BC, from Tragilos, Macedonia cluster of grapes/TPAI in quarters of incuse square (some examples have the letter A to the left of the I; this one seems to read clockwise.) (The left side of the reverse is struck deeper which spit the flan at the corners of the square.) SNG Copenhagen Macedonia 447 Bought May 2012 under $50. -- Warren

My first thought on this was to post five $7-15 coins that I got from the spring show in Baltimore but looking at those pictures I decided that too many of them were nothing to be proud of. I will try to remember that when I go to the same dealer at the Fredericksburg show September 28. It is getting harder to find nice coins for $10. #1 Last week I bought a lot of two coins being sold together by Beast Coins on his VCoins site. http://www.vcoins.com/ancient/beast...roduct=10685He had several pairs of unrelated low end coins offered as package deals. These two were $45 plus $2.50 postage. The Constantius is a falling horseman that I lacked (I had the variation in Constans but not Constantius). The Urbs Roma was an exact duplicate of one I have but it is slightly nicer so it goes into the collection bumping the old one into trade stock. The problem with such 'deals' is you have to decide how much to allow for each cataloging them separately. $47.50 and 0? $32.50 and $15? Constantius II AE2 FH2 Siscia mint RIC 257 page 367 vol. VIII Constantine I / Urbs Roma commemorative Siscia mint RIC 240 page 456 vol. VII
