I didn't read everyone's responses to see if this was mentioned or not but with the 1884-CC being holdered but not graded, I have to ask if it is a GSA coin. If it is please do not send to PCGS, either send it to NGC or ANACS as they will leave the coin in the holder instead of busting it out and just adding the GSA designation to the label. Collectors would much rather have the GSA coins in the GSA holder and this is one example where NGC and ANACS coins will sell for more than a PCGS example of the same coin in the same grade

Who's angry? I'm laughing all the way to the bank. Of course I realize there are others out there who pay more than me but they're in a different area or state. Where I live there's way more who pay less and they advertise the most.
specksnyder. The stuff I bought today goes into my retirement fund. In these times I try to save as much as possible because I can't afford not to. I'm 52 and my goal is to start semi-retirement by this April.

Bryan1315. You hit the nail on the head. It's in the cardboard Nixon box with the sealed coin holder. It did not have the GSA paperwork. I appreciate the advise. I'll probably just leave it alone and add it to the personal fund. I'll post picks later. Thanks.

$29.50 was a very fair offer IMO, not sure why others are giving you a hard time about it. I once brought in ten Paraguay 300 Guaranies (.720 silver, ASW of 0.6157 oz each) to the only local coin shop in my town. This was back when silver was about $40, so spot for each was roughly $24.50. I was only offered $10 and not a penny more. Needless to say, I walked out and haven't gone back since.

Wasn't Silver about $4/ounce not long ago? Stuff like this makes me glad I'm old and really don't care about the prices of anything. If I can afford it, I buy it.

Nice post and I think "mds" did just fine with that deal. People are very quick to judge and seem to be missing a very important detail: It is a pawn shop! I would love to see some of these folks who are "hating" try to turn a profit with the attitude they are taking regarding business practices.

Quote: Sorry, but if I got offered $5 under spot, I would walk out the door without another word. Just me, but I would not be remotely impressed with that offer.
Seems to OP gets angry pretty fast too.

It was not in a pawn shop (if I read correctly). OP was acting as a private party. Even were he not, $5 under spot is just wrong. personal insults will not be tolerated

To the OP I dont think anyone was trying to insult you, well I wasnt at least.
Its just that there is a fine line between making money on a deal and costing yourself money in the long run. Most people probably will accept that offer, most people accept the cash for gold ones as well. Its just that the educated sellers/buyers wont and will probably not return to your store after such an offer. Those are the people you would get repeat business from that are really into coins if they are something your shop sells a good amount of. If you only sell coins every now and then it doesn't really matter.
Just something to think about thats all

I would say as from my own experience, Pay spot for silver like silver eagles and such. For generic silver maybe pay a dollar less. Also I feel if your not paying 70-75% of spot on junk gold jewelry, you are not treating your customers correct.

Is this the type of post one deserves?

Dont worry MDS308.... a lot of people talk and giving there own thoughts on the situation. I realize that It probably hurts a bit when members of the CCF family comes down on you but try and not take it to personal. Like one other member pointed out, uneducated people would have taken the offer but an educated person would not have and probably been offended. You are taking the slack from some of the educated. I think as a business owner, your starting point was a good starting point for you to turn a decent profit for you BUSINESS to continue to succeed and from someone that sounded like they obviously didn't care about the silver or the coins. Hence why they wouldn't move on the pure silver but did on the morgans. They know nothing of the morgans but can find spot price pretty easily. Besides, you moved up your price and were negotiating with them.....these other posters act like you kicked them out of your store for tuning down your first offer. Anyways, just keep doing it man. its different living in the moment and feeling the vibes and trying to make a living. CHEERS!

unrelated question mds:
when you buy at 29.50 what is your markup usually? I'm not a pawn broker nor do I have my own business but I do like to buy and sell to flip things now and then, and am just wondering what to offer people for their silver/coins and what to re-sell them at? is there a general percentage one uses? thanks
