Does anyone have a preferred method to get dust and paper and lint etc off the mirror surface of a proof coin ?

Compressed air gives water droplets
Camel hair paintbrushes leave microscopic scars

I used to acetone dip a coin before scanning but if the coin is in perfect condition and the only "problem" is lint from the felt lined box I get hesitant to go through all the work of dipping .

I have a de-ionisation pistol from my LP vinyl record playing days
You discharge negative ions and the LP went neutrally charged and in theory all the dust fell off . Would that work ?

I am not sure what comes out of a bellow blower I think there is a lot of dust I suppose, maybe more dust then was on it in the first place

Also I tried on an old 20 FF blowing the dust and lint of
nothing came off and I only succeeded in condensing my breath on it
and having to acetone it

Next one I have to scan I may try the deionisation gun cause I figure a handgenerated flow of ions is not going to pit the coin if it did not pit my vinyl records

Otherwise it is back to acetone dipping and scannig on summerdays only
( I need the heat to make the acetone flash off )

The cans of compressed air (intended for computer use) do not contain any moisture.

I use it to blow off the the coin holder as well as the coin.

Thank you Metalman

I was not aware of those

I know about compressed air cans to drive simple airbrushes but the
air gets so cold it condenses and then freezes the moisture after less then 5 minutes
Maybe they are the same cans but one used for a second and the other for minutes on end

Hi , I use a hair drier just hold it further away as not to burn the dirt & lint.

Hope that helps as it is also inexpensive way of doing the job.

Cheers

Thank you that is a good idea
I only have those philips designer airdryers at home like 8 inch wide designed to dry without letting you feel the airflow

So if I can get one of those old monsters with very small slitted outlets that would work .
Next flea market I will look at airdryers
