I purchased this coin along with three others a few weeks ago. They just arrived yesterday. I will post the others in their own separate thread.

I did not realize I had so many Septimius Severus coins. This makes 13. This is a Denarius, RIC 218 struck at Rome in 208 AD:

New-Sep-Severus

OBV: SEVERVS PIVS AVG, laureate head right
REV: P M TR P XVI COS III P P, Concordia seated left on throne, holding patera and sceptre
3.42g, 20mm

Nice Sep Bing! . Wow 13 Seps. What draws you to this particular ruler? The reverses, which are numerous. Are you trying to obtain a cross section of his coinage? Or or or have you done this accidently? Are you Sep coins recent buys or are the from the Early years. For some one like you who has been in the game since the late middle ages, I would love to see some of your earliest buys. That would be an interesting thread all into itself. Kudos Jw...ugh ...Bing.

You can still call me JW. I have not set out to make a collection of Septimius Severus coins. When I see one with a reverse I like, in good condition, and at a price I think is good, I just buy it and add to my collection. No strategy involved.

All but two and they are provincial AE's from Nikopolis. Most of the Denarii are in good condition with excellent detail IMHO.

I can but agree with Doug. Stay away. I have passed the 400 coin mark with this emperor.

Not really. These coins were purchased a few weeks ago. I'm just getting around to posting them.
