I agree for the most part. The 1 problem I have with this listing is that he did show 3 rolls with end silver pieces and the pile of silver and then in the listing stating that you arent getting the pictured coins

That is clearly being deceptive trying to make people think they are going to get that or get buyers that didnt read the listing closely. Pictures should have to be whats being sold, and if its not going to be in this case then it should just be a picture of a normal roll since that is what you will be getting 99.9% of the time

My issue is with the practice of showing a photograph and then adding text that says this photograph isn't what you'll be getting - it's what you might possibly be getting. If it's what you may or may not be getting, that photograph shouldn't be used. A photograph of what you will for sure be getting is the photograph that should be used. I also feel the use of text leading prospective buyers on with descriptions of what they might "possibly" be getting (and then tossing in carefully worded disclaimers which make it clear that the "possibility" is 100% up in the air) is pretty shady, though that's just my opinion. I think the money-back guarantee is pretty slick, too - it'd cost a dissatisfied customer at least $5 to send a roll back, when their loss is only $8 (over FV), so who's going to bother doing that to recoup a measly $3? Nonetheless -- anybody who wants to see all that as being 100% ethical because of the included disclaimers is free to do so.

On the penny vendors - I agree with descriptions above of them and the seedy, seeded rolls they sell. Nonetheless, when they peddle a roll of wheaties with a sorry old less-than-good IHC on the end, that's what you get. A roll of almost-good to good mid- to late-50's common mintage wheaties (though they don't bother to specify that) with one pathetic, smooth-surfaced IHC on the end. Obviously a seeded roll, but they're definite about what you're buying. The word "possible" or "possibly" don't show up in the seeded penny roll offerings that I've looked at (which is not all of them).

As stated above, "this is just one more ebay listing." Amen to that one!! I'm a relative newbie, and I'm just now starting to learn that ebay is loaded with borderline, marginal, iffy and shady stuff that I personally find to be on the far side of questionable, but that's just my opinion. I agree with the statement above that it's time to drive the money-lenders out of the temple, but nobody has to agree with the author of that quote (and me) on that one, either.

On bank fees for boxes of coins - I'm not "getting away" with anything. None of the banks in my area (that I'm aware of) charge such fees. The two that I use certainly don't. Upstate NY is kind of a backwater "land that time forgot" in many ways, and I guess this may be one of those ways. If and when that practice gets here, I'll be done with CRH in the blink of an eye. $25 per box is a far stiffer fee for playing CRH games than I'd ever tolerate.

I'm starting to think maybe I should take some Ex-lax, loosen up and get with the ebay spirit of things. I could sell my nearly four dozen empty skunk half-dollar bank boxes on ebay for a couple dozen bucks a pop - with photographs of the actual boxes being sold and appropriate disclaimers in my offering, of course.

I agree about the photgraphs, theres silver in every photograph and the pile of silver isn't even unsearched rolls its just silver.

Shady may be a little harsh, but the more I think about it the more they certainly are going out of their way to make you think youll be getting silver. I dont have a problem saying unsearched for silver or there could be silver but it should just be a small mention and not be pictured

You should see what a box of unopened pennies go for on ebay. It's crazy. Especially when you can go to the bank and buy it for face.

Hopefully, Kitco will have added graphs and charts for Twinkie spot by the time the NY market opens on Monday morning. Twinkie spot should exceed silver spot by then and palladium spot by Wednesday. Thank God that ebay is here to help us all through this crisis!

I admire the vendors who are peddling $15 worth of low-end, sugar-filled and preservative-loaded junk food for 20x the retail cost. They should get the ebay 2012 Vendor of the Year Award.

Just a thought, but who's to say that these people aren't just weighing the rolls to weed out the silver before listing them?

This listing is pure garbage. The seller buys boxes of halves for face at the bank, likely strips out all the silver (he can just weigh each box to determine if there is silver inside), repackages them in a fake old looking bank roll, and then resells them for an ABSURD premium using photos that are wholly non-representative of the lot; THESE ROLLS ARE WORTH FACE VALUE NOT A PENNY MORE.

of all the things to plant a flag in the sand and defend to the death, this is not one of them. I think you are overreacting, Fat Freddy.

If you want to talk about deceitful and creating a delusion, this is who you should be mad at: http://www.amazon.com/Strike-Rich-S...#043;hunting.

The only good thing about it being a book, is at a book store you can flip through the pages and realize it's worthless before buying it.

There's plenty of silver out there in the system- most of it is in the form of silver dollars and those are held at the various fed branches in bags that very few collectors can get to.

A colleague of mine got 10-15 $1,000 bags and turned up some Morgans, Peace dollars, 40% silver-clad Ikes, and some American Silver Eagles. The value of the silver totalled the shipping costs of the coins- so it's not exactly a win-win proposition.

cc99999 -- Thanks for saving me from another futile, exhaustive CRH exercise ending in frustration. I've been working for >3 months on trying to find a way to get my hands on those Fed $1K gray bags of the large/older dollar coins (Ikes, etc). Every avenue I've chased down has proven to be a dead end in my area and I was about to have a couple NYC friends give it a try for me.

After what you just said about your friends experience, my efforts on that project just screeched to a sudden, total and permanent halt. Thank you for sparing me the wasted effort and frustration. Fed $1K gray bags just got crossed off of my 2013 list.

just wanted to ad, because I've received some inquiries about these Fed Bags. My colleague can't get anymore either. He used a connection who had a big account with the bank and the bank manager got wind of the deal and put an end to any future ones. My guess is that they made the mistake of not charging the customer for freight and then got a bill and all h*** broke loose. 15,000 big dollar coins weighs quite a bit, I imagine.

You can weigh the rolls and find silver.
This is just a roll searcher that has found a way to get rid of clad rolls while appearing to be on the level.

It's a scam, and should be called out.

I noticed he has a few other auctions for unopened half dollar rolls. He did put a different picture on one of the auctions:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-2-dollar-...70937388653?

But the new picture is the same idea. If you thought the other was misleading, you will probably think this is too. At least there is clad in the picture.

I also noticed on his feedback that someone purchased some of these rolls and found two 1964 Kennedy halves. Perhaps he isn't weighing them...

Most of E-Bay is shady these days (and that's being polite). Coins, vehicles, whatever, it doesn't matter. You run the risk of being screwed every time you buy something site unseen.
