I-Can't-Believe-It!-Is-It-Galla-Placida?

I attributed the reverse details alone and came up with Galla Placida. I can't believe it and so I had to order it for a whopping $1.99. I said I wasn't going to order from this guy again but I couldn't resist.

Let me know what you guys think.

I got some other coins too that I will be posting later. I'm not feeling too well at the moment.

From the looks of it, I don't think its Placidia. It may be worn but enough of the reverse detail remains that show that the style isn't crude enough for the AE4 bronzes of the 5th century. Plus what could be the G in Galla looks a little more like a V to me (so probably Valentinian II). Finally in the exergue, I see what looks like ON, for Constantinople, a mint that made this type not for Placidia but for Valentinian II. Not to crush your hope or anything, but I'm just telling what I see.

You could be right. I haven't been able to find any Galla Placida coins of the same type to compare. Even if it's not, it's not a big loss since I didn't pay much for it.

That "O" in exergue looks kind of strange and so I thought maybe it was the top of an "R".

I agree with VK, IMO it isn't Galla Placadia. The bust d looks male and the reverse is a common type found on late AE4's. Sorry.

I see your points with the bust.

Either way, $2 for a fifth century coin in this condition (I.E. Identifiable) is still pretty good!
