The coin is not an exact match to the mints photos, it's normal.

I don't believe the mint uses photos, they are software generated images from the design.Differences, between the mint's pics and the actual coin, such as those on the beaver's tail appear quite often.

That's not very good. I kinda thought that, since the Royal Canadian Mint was the best mint in the world, that I would get what I am shown. The coin is ugly in hand but the RCM image is good. Oh we'll.

Yeah, we're talking about the same thing. That's the difference between a picture and a real object. Consider it a lesson learned I guess. If you're that concerned about the minute details of the design, it may be best to wait until you can see some actual pictures of a real coin instead of ordering from mint pictures.

There are usually differences between the RCM illustration and the RCM final product. Whether one looks better than the other is a matter of personal preference. When this Beaver coin was first announced several people said they didn't like the image but once they received it in hand they thought it looked great.

Have you seen the coin? The area that I have trouble with looks like an error in design. The twig is just floating in the middle of the tail. It doesn't look natural. And I don't need to be lecture about the merit of personal aesthetics. I am talking about this specific element of the coin not the sum of the hole. I love the RCM image.

I have the coin. The ridge is there as it likely is in all of them.

Quote: Have you seen the coin? Yes. The first thing I did was a search on ebay and RCM to see if what you were posting was representative of what is out there so I could better understand. Quote: And I don't need to be lecture about the merit of personal aesthetics. Far from a lecture as I was just trying to help. ] Quote: I am talking about this specific element of the coin not the sum of the hole. Your coin has a hole in it too? Or are you talking about the sum of the entire(whole) coin? Most holes have no "sum"....

I see that there is a lot of arrogant folks around here... Picking everything little thing apart.
Sorry I was new. Sorry I had typo's. sorry I had trouble with pics.
Thanks for the help. Doubt I'll be back here much.

Not picking every little thing apart, just trying to bring some levity to the post is all. You seemed pretty upset about the entire situation with your new purchase. I posted the "consider it a lesson learned" for you because you stated you were new to collecting. You will have many more of these moments during your collecting tenure. You will also find most folks are here to help you understand what you are seeing, which was just about the entirety of this post. Arrogant would be me locking you for becoming bent out of shape while folks are trying to help.

Richard We're just trying to explain that it's quite common for the mint and all mints to do this kind of stuff. Sorry if you feel we're being arrogant. ðŸŽ.

In addition: Most of the RCM pictures are "flat" and "clear". The coins that we get have 3D, and in case if coin is detailed (as Beaver for example), all this detalization affects on the viewer's perception, makes the coin to look really different. For the bad and good. I try not to miss any "animal" silver coin and can say, that generally, the coins looks better in hand, IMO.

Not to but..... It looks to me like you could interpret the raised portion on the tail to be where the tail is draped over the branch. Since the beaver's tail is flexible, it could be more realistic to have this on the real coin. Either way, a very minute detail that wouldn't be a "deal breaker" for me anyway.

I did consider the 'tail drapped over the branch but on my coin the ridge has the same texture as the surrounding branches.
My vote is in for it being a mistake. Oh well.
