Don't get me wrong, I like The Coin Show and I find it very informative, but it can be very misleading at times.

I am listening to Bromberg talk about the last penny this year and how it is so hard to find. He claims that you would not likely find one in circulation.

So I go into my pocket, and of the 6 pennies in there, there were 3 magnetic 2012's and one non-magnetic.

What a load of ****

How does he get away with making such claims? It feels wrong to mislead your customers.

Well you have to remember that he is in Indiana. I'm pretty sure that he means in U.S. circulation. I haven't head this episode yet, so I don't know if he directly says Canada or not.

Couldn't agree more. This guy more than any other is try to profit by hyping the rarity of the 2012 penny. What he is charging for them is almost criminal.

For those outside of Canada, The 'coin show' is airing this weekend on the Canadian television channel called The Shopping Channel.

but one cool fact from yesterdays shows, he has special access to the mint, not many people are granted access to film the minting process. what is a good guess for the 2012 penny mintage 120 million, even 1 million if not circulated but in dealers and collectors hoards are way to many for these to appreciate.

120M is probably the low side. Not rare in any sense of the word and everyone and their brother will be saving them so they will never be in demand IMO.

Funny he always seems to mention the '91 quarter which had a mintage of 459k. Kind of like comparing apples and orangutans.

Have to admit that I'd like to watch the tour video that he did at the RCM but I won't be buying from the TSC to get it. Hopefully, he'll give them out for purchases from his on-line store too because there are occasionally some items worth buying on there.

I would guess more than 400M, The Mint still has pallets of penny boxes left. Plus the last million pennies are boxed away for future release. ;)

Instead of the 1991 25c, people should think of the 1970 5c

1969: 27.8 million
1970: 5.7 million
1971: 27.3 million

There was a LOT of jabber in the early 1970s about the low mintage. Prices spiked and people hoarded rolls.

Today all three dates are worth about the same.

The last penny hoard dwarfs 1970. They may end up being worth less than 2011.

I have met the guy that does "The Coin Show" at a coin show recently. I had a question about a possible type II SBA and he was very kind and took the time to go online and compare the coin. I was wrong, it was a very common type I.He was very gracious and has a good local reputation as a fair and honest dealer.
I've listened to his podcasts and find them entertaining and correct in my less than complete knowledge base.

Coin Addict: Wrong coin show. I made the same mistake. They are talking about a show in Canada.

Did anyone else enter the contest to guess how many pennies were used to make that floor display?

The contest closed at noon EST today and the winners are to be announced tomorrow. Much of farewell to the penny stuff for prizes.

.

Yes, I was actually referring to this. I find this statement misleading to consumers. While it may be true at the time he did this, if he were to do this again at the present moment, I am sure he would find a little more than 3 2012 pennies.
