Thanks for all help. I know that this is a Domitian Virtus but because it has been holed at a crucial spot I do not know which one. It reads IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS X? CENS PER PP Weight is 9.37 gm 28 or 29mm diameter

Just a guess but given the distance between the X and CENS I'd say it's at least COS XII.

echizento is correct imo. There is limited space allowing for a limited number. I believe it to be COS XI or XII, but I lean towards XI. If so, I believe it would be: RIC 500 Domitian AE As. 86 AD. IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XI CENS PER PP, laureate bust right with aegis / VIRTVTI AVGVSTI S-C, Virtus standing right, holding spear & parazonium. http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/domi...RIC_0500.jpg

Looking a little harder, I wonder if it could not be COS XV which would make it:
RIC 706 Domitian AE Dupondius. IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM COS XV CENS PER P P, radiate head right / VIRTVTI AVGVSTI S-C, Virtus standing right with spear & parazonium, foot on helmet.

Looking at the ribbons they go straight down on mine and at 45 degrees in RIC 500.
Do you not think that RIC 706 is to heavy ?

The example of RIC 706 used on wildwinds is about 4g heavier, so it does make you wonder. And the legend/breaks on the RIC 424m does not match. Does the bust on your coin appear to be radiate or laureate? If laureated take a look at RIC 499: http://wildwinds.com/coins/ric/domi...RIC_0499.jpg

The details look very fuzzy - almost like its been cast. But why would someone hole a cast to wear?

RD, I don't think it matches the coin you found on acsearch. Yours appears to be a radiate while the one on acsearch is laureated.

I agree with Bing it does appear to be a radiate bust.

I think it may look radiate because of the high res photo I took highlighting the hair but if you can point me in the direction of some images I would be most grateful. Will take some low res images when its light. Thanks for help - this is a coin I inherited from my Great Grandfather along with many other very strange coins which came out of a sack cloth bag which had been stored in an old air raid shelter, garages etc over the last 100 years.
