1971-D Kennedy Die Issue? Missing Part Of Face...grease?

eSinger Pillar of the Community United States 523 Posts	Posted 05/19/2013 3:05 pm I found this 1971D Kennedy that was in great shape but something was odd. I looked closer and it seems that the die did not make full contact. It is not wear as the coin is AU/MS easy. Look close at the nose and mouth. The 'line' details are not there. A closer look.... and another.. Look right below the lips.. I got a new microscope to complement my QX5, it was supposed to go to 800x but it does not. It did not come with software nor a manual but I managed to get it online after a search. ( I used older software and it turns out it was the same). I want to do a comparison later of the QX5 and this USB unit but that will come later. I am working on a DDO / DDR Kennedy post as to why there are 1966 types yet no 1967 (Which I have some). I think it will come down to the definition of a double die and machine double but I can not really tell the difference (yet). Report this Post to the Staff

Always neat to show to other new coin collectors. But you might tell them it does happen when the dies are over polished and the die is reaching retirement.
