Old US currency. I don't only collect a particular denomination or series. Right now I'm trying to put together a nice (above $100 each) set to represent each denomination, but I also have a collection of lower end coins. So far for my set I have: 1853 Large Cent, PCGS AU-58 1888 3 Cent Nickel, NGC MS-62 1937-D 3-Leg Buffalo nickle, ANACS AU-53 1945-D Mercury dime, NGC MS-67 FB 1825 Bust Half Dollar, ANACS AU-55 To complete the set I need a small cent, 2 cent, 3 cent silver, 20 cent, quarter, and dollar. I'm not touching the golds for right now.

Rigoletto, What a coincidence. Everything you collect is exactly what I'm missing!

I answered "one from every country", but I change my mind daily. I just bought a 2005 Standard Catalog of World Coins and I am trying to find a 1oz silver (or close to it) commemorative in every country to put on my list. All I need now is about is about a million dollars (non-collectible ones I hope, or make it two million)!

A lot of commemoratives or proof/unc silver coins that you see in Kruase can sometimes go for just over spot. Shop around on ebay and see what the going prices are What countries are you looking for?

Our main collection is elongated coins from San Francisco but we do also collect some coins/paper money and exonumia as well from around the world - more theme driven here though (magic, seasons etc.).

I have found myself getting interested in Ancient Roman and Byzantine coins. I still collect US coins.

Paratrooper: I've seen some of your coins in other parts of the site and they are looking good! What I'm not sure I understand from your post is what your set will consist of when it's finished--do you plan on having a Half Cent or Half Dime? The set you are building does indeed sound exciting. I'd love to know more about what your plans are for it!

I don't know how people have the discipline to stay just on one or two series' of coins. I have collected:
- Kookaburras (up to date) - Chinese silver Pandas (up to date) - U.S. Typeset (probably never will finish) - 1909-1959 Lincoln cents (probably never will finish) - Canada silver dollars (have almost all of them now) - Working on: Philippines U.S. Administration, Panama Balboas, & one coin for every country
.. until something else really cool comes to my attention

Indian Head cents are what I collect. I have a U.S. Type Set too but that might take me a while to complete.

Well I have two collecting strategies
a) anything that is gold better then 900/1000 is pretty and sells for about meltprice
b) anything that is gold better then 900/1000 and is extremely pretty and sells for less then 50% over melt
I finished the classics I wanted three years ago the Napoleons and interim kings and the Third Republic a Vicky Shieldback The Double Eagles and Eagles A nice Una Libra and choise South Americans etc

I collect from many other nations but U.S. coins do not feature largely in it, although do plan on getting a few nice Morgans at some point in the future. So I have all kinds of 'collections' building up, but it's really just a case of what I find nice and pretty - affordable at this point in time.
