A couple of old pour 10 ouncers, note that the marking on each bar is a different size.

I'm going to bump this one back up. I'd be grateful for any info on the different size refiners marks on the 10 ounce loafs. Does it matter as a collectable? I still have a great deal to learn about silver other than it's intrinsic spot value. To me bullion is bullion and I'm still trying to learn what's what with "collectable" bars. I've been a buyer of what interests me and luck more than anything else has helped me acquire there cool old bars.

thank you in advance.

Liverpool,
Not sure which one is rarer but I've seen the smaller logo more frequent than the bigger one on the 10oz poured bar. There are other variation of this type are the one with hallmark on the flat side and the one without .999+ fineness. The later is the rarest of this type IMHO. Hope this helps

NVU, thanks for getting back to me. It's been interesting to learn about these different issues. I've seen the one without the 999+ fineness on ebay for high money. I'd be careful with those, I think it would be easy to fake. I know polishing a monogram off and old sterling spoon is not that hard.
Again many thanks and hope to continue to learn more about these great old bars.

Yes, it good to be cautioned though. It's easy to polish/remove the .999+ off the bar but it is the same time very easy to spot if it has been molested. This eBayer is a real deal but I don't agree with his prices most of the time.
If you're into engelhard poured bar, you will see bars without hallmark or .999 finess are also tough to come by. Just letting you know....

It's been a little while since I visited this part of the form. Happy New Year to all.

NVU: Engelhard poured bars have been rare for me in this part of Canada. I've seen one, 1 ouncer when I had the opportunity to get most of the JMs I've pictured in the last page or two. There was also 2, 50 ounce old poured engelhard bars at a pretty good price at the time but I've taken some of the great advice given here in the metals forms and decided to limit my buying for now. I held the two of them, one in each hand. It was very cool. ...very very cool.
So for now, I will be continuing to watch for the odd Art bar by J&M.
cheers

Liverpool,
You have a very good start so far, especially those poured bars of yours are cool to look at. Take your time to collect these things. JM has so many different varieties in regular and contract issues. I've known a friend/collector amassed some of the rarest issues that you hardly see them offer anywhere in the public and he's not even complete yet. He himself also know other collector who has bigger collection than his, so you know the sky's the limit...

Here is an example of different varieties of 1 gram gold bar in regular issues

Here's one I have not seen before. Johnson Matthey Swiss Chalet 40 years. Good luck to the seller on his asking price. Too rich for me but it was great to see the picture and now I can start looking for one.
cheers

Hello,

Long time lurker here, but I've signed up so that I can post these Johnson Matthey London Medals pictures here on behalf of a good friend, in the hopes that someone here has seen them before and can tell us more about them, specifically the mintage.

Thanks in advance!

They sure look nice and interesting! Never seen them before. Thanks for sharing.

Is there anything else besides the serial on the rim, such as J&M logo?
