Started a registry set of Roosevelt dimes yesterday on the NGC website. I got down to entering my 1960 in MS67 and NGC refused to accept the coin I was submitting. So I contacted them and they responded that I was trying to submit a proof coin in my business strike registry. Couldn't figure out what the heck was going on, so I went and got the coin and sure enough, the dime is a proof designated as a business strike MS67! I've owned the coin for several years, and funny thing is, I NEVER noticed it was a proof! I have requested NGC to at least give me a refund equal to the grading fee as I lost my shirt on this one! An PF67 dime is worth no way near what a MS67 business strike!!! See you all later! |

good luck but I do not think their guarantee covers mistakes on the label

I think you will find that they will consider that to be a "mechanical error" and they don't cover that.

They sent me an email apology that explained it was not covered under any warranty. (which I expected.) They also let me know that corrective action steps have been taken.

OK, I looked up 'business strike' in the glossary. How can one tell? And as opposed to what? If it isn't a business strike, what is it?  |

Did the mint release SMS (Special Mint Sets) in 1960? Or was it 1965? I am not well versed in moderns, but it's just a thought?

A funny thing happened on the way to the forum.............NGC contacted last night requesting that I return the coin to me so they can make it right. I think what this means is a new holder designating the coin as a proof with the correct label.

Hi Lonnie, I posted my story in the Ancient Coin forum about the Alexander tetradrachm I had graded by ICG. Months later I noticed the holder had cracked and the coin appeared discolored. I sent it back at ICG's request and they decided the coin was too thick and should not have been accepted for slabbing. They un-slabbed the coin and returned it (fortunately, with no damage) and included 5 free grading vouchers to compensate me for my trouble. Maybe if you mention that to NGC they'll make a comparable offer. Surely NGC won't want to admit that ICG provides better customer service than they do!  |
