The eye appeal and luster is what attracted me to this coin. The holder has MS63 on it, so I purchased it on impulse for $65 without having my magnifier or a recent price guide (I had my 1995 one). So I posted this thread since I thought I got ripped off, and it has been confirmed. Buyer beware, of course, but the integrity of the dealer comes into question when marking up a coin 200% over what it's worth. There is a difference between making money and being dishonest, and this dealer took advantage of the situation and completely ripped me off.
On the bright side, the coin has good eye appeal and looks good in the 7070. I'll hang on to this one for a few years, and once my 7070 is complete I'll consider upgrading this coin. I doubt I will be able to recoup any of my money since my 1995 guide had an MS60 listed as $31, and today PCGS lists an MS60 as $27. If anything, it looks as if prices are falling for the
V nickels.
My father was going to buy some 2000+ silver american eagles from him this weekend. I'm going to talk to the dealer about how bad he ripped me off, and then I'm going to ask him to give us a free silver eagle to make it up to me. I doubt he'll go for it, but I'm going to try.
Benji, did you mean to say MS63 instead of AU63? If not, then I thought the grades in the 60's were automatically considered mint state / UNC?
