I have some uncirculated year 2000 P and D Sacagawea dollars in Federal Mint Rolls that I bought a few years ago. I'm wondering what to do with them. A glance at ebay shows me that some Fed Mint rolls for this year go for $40+, but many go for $30. At $30, it's probably not worth the time, hassle, and risk to list, pack, sell, etc. At $40, it might be. I've heard that some of these had errors... is there some place I could learn about these errors and the possible value? Would I be better off breaking them and checking for errors and then just making a deposit at the bank? I'm not up for selling them individually once the roll broken. Are odds of finding an error good enough and the possible value high enough that I should go through them and check? Or would I be better off trying to get $5 extra a roll? Would a coin dealer have any interest in buying a bunch of uncirculated mint rolls? Or is the value above face non-existent at the wholesale level? Thanks for any insight. |

are these rolls yellow/black in color ? just like rupester said with the cherrypickers book.. the best find is a cheerios dollar and 2nd is a wounded eagle for the 2000 P dollars. snowman: They are yellow rolls with 1/4" blue ends marked "directly from US Mint". Does that rule out them having anything exciting inside?

Editing the above after some reading... I see what you are saying - the cheerios likely only came in the special packs.
The only other common thing I see that a mint roll might have that is listed at the site you referenced are the mule coins.
If I get the 2012 edition of the Cherrypicker's guide, will it list specific things that I can look for with these specific dollars, or is it more of a general education in what to look for?

the 2012 cherrypickers book only lists 2 varieties - 1 is the cheerios type and the other is the wounded speared eagle ...so basically the cheerios dollar would not be in the roll..other varieties/errors could be ? 1 see that 2000 P dollars is in the rotated die list ... here is the main link and then go to the census if you want to know the rotation error http://www.rotateddies.com/ |

Thanks... so it looks like we have the Cheerios, the wounded eagle, mules, and two die rotations.
How were the wounded eagles created? Was there a bad die in use? I couldn't find any discussion of these, although I did find a few out there for sale.

yeah, the die was damaged somehow to create the wounded eagle pattern

It's a bad die somehow; either someone gouged it with a tool or it struck through something hard enough to imprint the die. It's a pretty cool error, uncommon on Moderns.  |
