I'd be happy just to hold it in my hand for a minute! AU. Tough coin in any condition.
I have mixed feelings about TPG grading for any coin.
I've looked for years for one of these. Very nice coin, thanks for letting us have a look.

Sure looks like a 09-O to me. If so, you have one tough coin. I'm in at AU53.
Details grade for a light cleaning? Maybe.

Very tough coin and tough to grade with those pics. Off the top I'd give it XF45 at a minimum and AU53 at a max.

The TPG services will weigh in the strike and luster and you should be happy with the end result.

The branch mint gold has weathered the market and seems to still be doing well. It is a good coin to hang on to for the next 20+ years!

Nice find!

Just to provide an idea of what this coin could be worth, this 1909-O G$5 in an NGC AU55 holder went for $19,975 last June. Your coin looks like an "O" mint piece and appears AU. Good Luck!

I have an appointment for Tuesday morning to get it sent off to PCGS. Been studying a TON of pics and am thinking XF45..
We'll see. I'll post a pic of the slabbed coin as soon as I get it back.

UPDATE:
Decided to join up with PCGS and send this in myself along with a nice 1925-S $20. Funny moment: after I paid the postmaster, he leaned over the counter and asked, "Will you let me check them out when they come back?". Pretty cool, I thought!

UPDATE:

On it's way back from PCGS. I just logged on and got the verdict..AU53.

The 1925-S $20 St.G. that I sent with it graded AU58.

Not too bad, but I won't be retiring anytime soon!

So it is an '09-O and AU53? Sounds like a five-figure to me.

Maybe not retirement material but a darn nice score to anybody. Congrats!

Solid grade by PCGS I think - to be honest, I'd much rather this than my 1908 MS62. Yours looks much nicer.

I'm considering listing one or both of these with GreatCollections.com. Has anybody had experiences with them? Good? Bad?

Great Collections is a fine outfit with low fees. Your coins should do well there. You might ask them to review the pieces for possible CAC approval before auctioning as that can bring you extra money. I'd also post links to your auctions on various coin forums for exposure/advertising.
