Hi - I just joined this forum as I have a question regarding Canadian error coins.
I have been going through a bunch of pennies; all within the last 20 years but in near unc condition; and altho there is nothing that stands out as worth much, there are quite a few with errors ( I have been going through Coins and Canada .com list of errors for each year ) and was wondering if it's a waste of time or might they be worth something? My eyes are starting to cross looking through a magnifying glass, so if I'm wasting my time then I'll quite. The biggest number of errors are die clashes.

Pics of the coins would help and if not than perhaps a list of the dates and errors that they have.

OK - I can send pictures if you think it's worth looking at, but a sample of what I have is :
2009 Can. penny - die chip under the first A in Canada
1979 Can. penny - die clash on stem of leaf + extra metal under Queens throat
1979 Can. penny - double 9 + die clash on stem of leaf
1979 Can. penny - die clash on stem of leaf
Guess my question is whether these sort of errors are significant or no big deal......
The reason I'm wondering is that I was given a few hundred dollars worth (face value) of Canadian coins to sell, and not being a coin collector, I'm at a loss on the value of some of these coins!!

Generally speaking, the more obvious the error is the more valuable the coin will be. If you have to closely examine the coin to notice the error then it likely won't be very valuable. Things like date doubling, die chips and die clashes are common with small cents and not very valuable. There are some scarce/valuable small cent error coins so you should post pictures of anything you think is interesting.

Maybe then I'll post any pictures that I feel are worth checking into, and you people can advise me if I'm on to anything or not.
I have 3 rolls of nickels as well; from 1920's to 1950's, and I'll go through them as well.

On the 2009 the die chip is no big deal but if it's non magnetic then it is a big deal depending on condition.

OK - I have a couple pictures of errors for you too look at, but not sure how to upload them as I don't see an icon anywhere to attach images. If I had my 5 year old grandson here, he'd probably show me, but he's in kindergarten right now !

Cool looking and collectible die cracks, but don't quit buying lottery tickets just yet.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Rats - Does that mean I have to take the Ferrari back to the dealer ? So I have over 100 of the 1943 tombac nickels - 29 with errors of one sort or another; but I see the 1943 nickels aren't selling at all on ebay. Is it worth my while to list them or am I better off to put them away and go ice fishing instead ? I am not a coin grader, but would guess them to range between VG20 and EF40 in quality. |

Interesting collection of War Nickels, I just love these varieties in fact I have accumulated roughly 100 War Nickels 60+ of which are 1943s, not worth a bundle so you're best to not put them on ebay and just go ice fishing like you said. Feel free to call me Will.

So Dollarman, you probably have about the same ratio of error coins as I do then - mostly die cracks . I have a lot of 1945 as well, plus a box full of 1920's and 1930's . Not being a coin collector, when I was given all these coins, I thought I'd been given a gold mine - turns out it's more coal than anything !!

Yes, more of a Cole mine, the War Nickels are 1942 tombac-1945 and are almost notorious for die cracks. Feel free to call me Will.

Just a simple question regarding error type coins if they are just small die chips or clashes, how much will you pay them? Only wrong planchets, severe off striks, major brockages are worth something.
