I asked the seller for an explanation, and here it is:

Dear studmv,

That's absolutely hilarious ! I was just messing around with the 299 and 499 buy it now! I am no idiot and was just having some fun! I like all the crazy theories on the forum! The coin itself is stunning and really I have no intention of selling it for 50 bucks like some guy think it's worth! I was actually gonna change the price again for kicks but not sure what kind of reaction I would get on the forum again lol! Plus with ebay fees and shipping cost even a 99 dollar sale pockets me like 70-80 bucks minus my cert cost and what I paid for it originally which now I'm down to about 20 bucks profit! I'll leave it for now or message me on the forum and work something out !

I believe the seller to be OK, just with a warped sense of humor:

Dear jreynolds69,

Thank you for the explanation.
Our members, while possessing a great sense of humor, vigilantly respond to ebay 'problems,' real or perceived.
Both buyers and sellers voice concerns and both are treated fairly.
I shall share your response along with my opinion that you are, at heart, a decent seller.
Do not sell us short as we possess a LOT of knowledge.
Matthew
