I won this in a raffle and I haven't seen very many Barber dimes and the few that I have seen have been quite worn.

So I would really appreciate some help with giving it a grade.

I hope the pics are good enough. It is in a plastic holder.

I am concerned about the scratches. Is that normal for a lightly circulated coin? Or has someone done something dastardly to it?

I would call this an UNC details, it reminds me of a Franklin half I saw the other week that had become a victim of silver polish. Sorry
Feel free to call me Will.

Thanks. I suspected it had been cleaned. I was hoping I was wrong. It's a shame, but I got it with a $1 raffle ticket so I won't fret about it.

Looks very nice. I'd agree with the others on the coin being cleaned/polished. It's obvious from the hairlines on the obverse and the super-bright coin with the breaks in luster. for grade I'd put it at MS-Details.

xf-au details here. the forehead hair is missing a lot of the detail and for a philly strike it should be a lot better and it looks kind of flat to me so I think its rub. some of the wheat grains on the reverse look a bit flat and indistinct for a ms philly coin as well.

Thanks for your comments everybody.

justin3651-- I didn't notice the missing hair details, so that makes me think that the coin was circulated.

Anyway, for now it is my best Barber dime. I expect that if I ever get another one it will cost me more than $1.

For $1 you did alright. Personally I would buy it for $1.75-$2 retail. 1913 is a year pretty common in higher grades so imo it takes the premium of a details coin down to a little over melt value. on ebay I wouldn't be surprised to see you get closer to the price of a problem free one, a xf is about $20 and a au about $60 book value approx. and you might find someone willing to pay 1/4 of it if you put it up.

Thanks, Justin.

I probably won't be selling it any time soon but I am trying to add some notes to some of the collection so that if something happens to me, my niece won't be here posting :I just inherited blah blah blah.... LOL

Once the damage was confirmed, I figured half of the value was gone -- apparently it's worse than that.
