Die cracks on Morgans are usually not enough to warrant designation as a VAM. It's quite possible to build an entire date/mint set (excepting the rarities, of course, unless you mortgage the house
) with coins that have die cracks. Morgans were minted by the bazillions, and between the large mintage and large dies, cracks were very common.
The 1897-P isn't noted for significant VAM rarities. Look for doubling about the date to help attribute. Two fairly worthy VAM's exist - 6A, featuring pitting below the arrowheads on the reverse, and 8, featuring left-side star doubling and doubling at the top of the cap.
