Most likely the shiller will "ask" the Seller to cancel the sale. When the seller "agrees", then the auction is cancelled and any fees incurred by the Seller are refunded by ebay. The problem is a shiller and seller can only do this so many times until it starts raising flags Usually, the shiller will disappear and resurface under a new I'd and the cycle then repeats itself. ebay really can't do anything when it's all said and done and that's what's so unfortunate.

Quote:next go around I am putting a bid for $3,000 in and not paying. I'll tell ebay "ooops, my kid hit the button by mistake as the auction was ending". I could care less. I have several people who will do the same every time he lists it. we'll be the last minute bidders with the insane number only to not pay him and let the wheels of aggravation spin. he deserves it. You know, I think reporting the listing would be just fine. I also do not know why you would submit yourself or anyone else to getting an "unpaid item" case. It is silly and embarrassing to actually ask other people to over-bid items. I suspect you're not actually going to do any of this, but if so, why? This is not really your business as you have nothing to do with the item or seller. Why are you so angry about this, in light of worse things on ebay, and certainly worse things going on in the world that could use helpful interjection. Come on now.

well, I'm not quite "angry" and I am not sure my words gave way to impress upon anyone I was dealing from a place of rage.

I don't think this was done out of anger, and of course, there are much worse travesty's in the world. However, we are coin collectors, and most of us have purchased at one time a coin that was mis-represented....so we can empathize. It is understandable that one would want to take action to stop sellers from doing this, especially if ebay sits on their hands and no longer takes action against crackout artists. In this case though, I think his pictures are so terrible that he will be lucky to ever break even, so he probably doesn't need intervention. He should have left it in the slab, took better pictures, and put it up for a $3000 BIN price.....someone would probably eventually buy it, it's really not that bad of a coin for being ex-jewelry.

Sometimes it seems like these sellers with shillers work harder at losing money, than they would have to work just earn an honest buck.

I have a rather cynical question here. Is it against ebay's rules to have a shill bidder? They relaxed the rules for "senseless" (a.k.a. centles) so he could crack away all day. I would not be surprised if they either did not have rules against shills or did not enforce rules about shills.

Quote: eBay does not allow "family, friends, roommates, employees, or online connections" to bid on your listing. that would mean I could have my boss bid on my items, and I would only consider him a colleague and an aquaintance...not employee or friend

The thing is, ebay doesn't know who your friends are or not. Think these shills care?

I assume it's a hard rule to enforce.

Technically, if it includes "online connections", if a CCF member knowingly bids on another CCF member's auction that would violate their terms of service.

Not only that, all members of ebay that bid on something that another ebay member is selling would be in violation. This, of course, would include everybody who bids..... All ebay members are thus forbidden to bid. What do we do?
