Two varieties of 1802
Half Cents exist - the first and very scarce variety
Cohen-1 bears the so-called
Reverse of 1800 with single leaves at top. 20 to 25 specimens of this rare coin are extant. It is a R-6 coin.
The second and much more plentiful Cohen-2 (R-3) bears the so called
Second Reverse with double leaves at top on right wreath (see also
Red Book P. 93).
My example is a C-2. Not in high grade (good 4 or good 6 imho), but noteworthy because struck on a clean and smooth light colored planchet. All 1802
Half Cents are overdates with the 2 struck over a 0.
This feature is still visible on this coin, although weakly.
For once my little camera was able to capture the true color of this copper coin!
