Help. I made a purchase from Silver Gold Bull for a gold coin and there's a purple/blue spot. I'm afraid it's plated but it passed the new security feature check on the Canada Maple Leaf that they have. Magnet also has no problem but there's a spot on there.

I looked at it through a magnify glass but not sure what to look for.

If you bought from silvergoldbull then the coin is not fake. Thry are very reputable dealers and if it is fake they will be glad to replace it.

On the other hand, that apot on the coin is juat some sort of paint. It's not toning. I suggest you weigh the coin and if it is the correct weight it is real. Furthermore you can take it to a coin dealer or jewellery shop for validation even though I'd say that it is real.

@zxcccxz

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I have been buying from SGB for 1-2 year now. It's just that they are now bidding coins from institutes and dealers that want to offload that have went bankrupt or other things. I'm just afraid the product was passed on from those guys and they didn't check the authenticity of it.

Hard to say what it is based on the picture. My gut reaction was verdigris. Just give a soak in some acetone and see if it comes off.

Best leave it alone as long as they said they'll replace it. IF you mess with it and cause any problems, they may not take it back. Good luck.
