Well I listened so much to everyone on here about the 7070. I went ahead and got one. NKAcoins offered a good enough discount to CCF members so I jumped. A couple of questions. I want to fill this album with the highest grades I possibly can. Or what ever my wife will allow me to.lol I know some on here have already filled or have been working on these for awhile. What grade is achievable? And at what ballpark figure would you say? I have already put some coins a thought were worthy of this album. But they are proofs or cameo grades. I just wonder if it will look bad if they are not all graded close to the same? Which I don't think I could swing with some of the coins. Anyway any thoughts would be much appreciated as always. Positive or negative. I just love this site!

Congrats on deciding to join the club! Quite a few people like to collect their 7070s in such a way that they do have a similar look, either in grades or in production method or in toning, but really it is up to what you think looks good. If you are fine with having a bunch of proof and cameo coins and then circulated regular strike coins in the same album then go for it! From my experience and research I would say that XF is sort of the sweet spot for price and what you are getting. Of course, it is fairly easy to upgrade modern coinage to MS for really no change in price. I have been doing a collection in that grade and sometimes bumping up to an AU or MS where I can and where I think it fits, and I haven't spent more than $300 dollars on a coin and that includes some of the pricier spots like the Trade dollar. If you are thinking about going all proofs or cameos, think ahead that you are probably going to have to get comfortable with the idea of cracking coins out of slabs and/or putting coins worth significant amounts in the album with a slip cover. If you are fine with it, then go with it, but I know a guy who did a great write up on the subject where he was putting together a very impressive 7070 of proofs and the like, but ended up wavering as he was thinking about cracking out coins worth $1000+ So just give it some thought and maybe look over the price guides to see what is possible on your budget. Good luck and can't wait to see some pics!

The proofs and cameos I had were something I really don't collect. Got them on a good deal. And yes they were in little jail holders. I don't have a problem at all of setting them free.lol I was figuring XF was a reality just didn't know how good it would look with XF next to proofs or MS coins. I guess that is why a collection is never really finished. I believe just by listening to some on here this will be a good album to collect. I would love to fill it with key dates and high grades. Just have to see how it goes. If I can ever sit down and figure out this picture thing. I will most definetly post them for the input the experts have on here.

Nice pick up. 7070 is the way to go. IMHO Quote: I was figuring XF was a reality just didn't know how good it would look with XF next to proofs or MS coins. I have no problem mixing the proofs or MS coins. Trying to keep my bottom line at XF. Even then, some of them can get real pricey for a non detailed coin.

With a limited budget, my 7070 grades all over the map. No rules! You can either live with the diversity, or upgrade until you are happy. The latter can be expensive.

I most definetly understand the pricey part. I was just going to try and aproach this album a little different. Not just hole fill and upgrade but start off with the best coin I can justify. And yes some will have to be XF because there are a few that would be unreachable. And remain married. Just have to learn a little patience. I will just have to see how that works out. I have already put in a dozen or more coins its just going to be a journey. I ever figure out this picture thingy I will post some. Thanks to all of you who teach on this site.

I'm working on an AU set but have settled for VF and EF in many cases. An all VF set would not break the bank and have nice eye appeal.

Are all of you filling the gold page with this album? It seems like some on here treat the gold page as an extra bonus. Not really part of the album. The reason I ask the gold coins would be a whole new ballgame for me. I have a couple but have never really studied or collected them. I have always been an EAC and early silver kind of collector.

Quote: It seems like some on here treat the gold page as an extra bonus. Yup. I got lucky and inherited a couple gold so went and bought the gold page to show off. Now to find the money and fill the other holes with gold.

Maybe someone could help me out. Is there a convenient list of the holes in the 7070 album? If I understand correctly, it is the standard for type sets. For a while, as a secondary interest, I have been gathering a good number of type coins. I'll continue to add to the collection, but I store them in the cardboard 2x2 holders and place them in the 20 slot vinyl pages in a 3 ring binder. As an OCD collector, I'd like to know how I am doing. Price of the album is only a temporary deterrent. In the long haul, I'm not sure I want to handle the coins in ways required to fit them into the holes. Thanks.

Cruisin, If you are referring to me, I'll try to supply photos. My real camera was disconnected from the coin set-up and attached to another tripod in the hope that I could capture a Palliated Woodpecker.

Quote: What grade is achievable? Well how much money you got, son? I targeted my album for VF/XF coins. Some better, a few worse. I went with a bit of a progression approach, where the older coins in the album tended towards lower grades while more recent issues were higher grades, including proof and uncirculated. I figured VF/XF was a good grade range since it still lets you see the major details of the coin. Some of the coins get really really expensive - even in XF. For example, the Seated dollars and the early large cents and Half Cents. I put somewhere in the neighborhood of $4,000-$4,500 into my album; couldn't afford the gold page at this point in my life, maybe someday. It's a great album to fill! Good luck!

So you got a NEW 7070 or you found a NOS 7070?
We are all waiting for a NEW 7070.
And good luck.
I went with as high of a grade as I could afford even if the coins were cleaned / damaged / holes / plugged for my 7070 as I wanted to coins to show the details of what they looked like when they were in circulation and everyone that I have shown it to who knew nothing about coins enjoyed looking at the set and hearing about the history.

So you got a NEW 7070 or you found a NOS 7070? No its not new. Got it from I believe NKA they gave CCF members %15 off when they joined the forum. The album was in really good shape. And yes I will try and figure out this picture thing and post real soon.
