It appears that the gold Kennedys will go on sale at noon EST today (8/5/2014). The Mint is cancelling the phone/online system at 11:45 and will turn them back on at noon.
I don't have that kind of money to participate but it should be fun for everybody logging in. My buddy will be buying one so I'll have to see how his attempt goes.

Any reports yet from the ANA show? Is there a line? If so how long? What's the buzz among the people in line? They are supposed to start handing out the tickets in about 20 minutes. Edited by Conder101

Well looks like the "gold rush" is over. Waiting room is still up, two minutes to get in as of 2:38pm. People that wanted a first day coin probably got one. It's going to be some time before the initial allotment of 40,000 is gone.

Waited out the shutdown and signed into the waiting room at 12. 19 minute wait. Coins already backordered.

I received the email that my new halves have shipped as well. Now I just have to figure out whether the gold coin will be worth it. I think I will sit out here on the fence for awhile and see what happens. I'm in for the 4 coin silver set whenever it comes out. Is it mint SOP to put out gold and clad months before silver? Seems weird to me, but I haven't been dealing with the mint all that long. In fact, I thought that since the gold coin was out today that the silver would be too. Wrong! |

The Mint learned from the BHOF fiasco. The waiting room was jammed for hours on that day, from the few that were going to buy dozens of the gold coins to the casual collector that might have just afforded only a silver dollar and the two halves. Staggering the release dates pared off the people that could only buy the clad or silver. What works the best is the month long sales window, you either buy it during those 4-weeks or you don't and take your chances later. Open ended sales might mean a mintage in the 100,000s for the gold half, I don't think it's the next UHR $20 though.

Today they went on sale and the mints website is open till midnight est will they still qualify for fs er designations if ordered before then ?

They will qualify if shipped within 30 days of when shipping starts..NGC needs the coins in hand within 30 days. PCGS will accept a sealed box that was shipped by the Mint within 30 days. |
