I have no problem with paying a bit for shipping...

Take into account the cost of the envelope.. and postage... let's say that's $2.. if the seller is saying $5 shipping.. I don't see that as too outrageous.. I just hope usually that they can combine shipping on items..

But $120 on shipping is just assinine! I had my motorcycle shipped from B.C. to Winnipeg for $200!! There's no way a couple coins would ever cost that much...

I don't list items on ebay.. but if I did I don't think I would ever charge anything close to $120 for shipping.. and if there was a large surplus from a shipping charge I would like to think I may refund the seller the difference...

You could leave 1 for shipping cost. This would give him a defect for each transaction. This is the only rating under shipping price that would earn a defect for seller under new ebay rules for shipping coat. A neutral feedback of 3 also earns defects for sellers. This guy won't last very long under new policy.

just to follow up about threatening to leave negatives, unless shipping is lowered, it is not extortion, this is copied right from the ebay site. this is what is allowed.

Allowed

Examples that aren't Feedback extortion

A buyer says he or she will leave negative Feedback or low detailed seller ratings (DSRs) unless the seller accepts a return and pays for return shipping.

A buyer says he or she will leave negative Feedback or DSRs unless the seller gives a full or partial refund for an item.

A buyer feels the shipping costs are too high and says he or she will leave negative Feedback or DSRs unless the seller lowers the shipping costs.

A buyer pays for an item and waits several weeks for it to arrive. The buyer tells the seller that if the item doesn't arrive by a certain date, he or she will leave negative Feedback or low detailed seller ratings (DSRs).

A buyer receives an item and decides the item is significantly not as it was described in the original listing. The buyer tells the seller he or she will leave negative Feedback unless the seller allows it to be returned for a refund.

seller's will often try protect the sale (refund) by charging high shipping, that way if you return the item you only get back the item price, not the shipping (and they keep the profit).

technically you have to honor your end of the contract (you actually agreed to pay the FULL shipping amount) but realistically the guy is a <insert profanity here> and I would've taken the non-pay rather than follow through with the sale.

in the end ebay will 99.99% of the time side with the buyer.

Horrible. I've dealt with high shipping, but this is off the chain. On the other side, I just bought a large cent and had to wait for a shipping cost after winning the item. The seller, in PEI, actually apologized to me for charging $2 when his actual cost was $4 to ship it to the US. I would have had no trouble paying the full amount. My policy is to charge a bit much for shipping, then I always refund ALL excess immediately upon shipping, and I state that in my listing (guitars, not coins, so rates vary more).

@wade, the op asked if the seller offered combined shipping so technically he did not agree to paying the full amount. The problem is that the details of the combined shipping were not discussed. Technically the seller did reduce the outrageously high shipping cost to a slightly less outrageously high shipping cost.

Clearly the seller is profiteering off shipping, which is not allowed by ebay rules from what others have posted. ebay should help the buyer on this one, not just because it's a ridiculous abuse, but in violation of rules.

(sarcastic) Wait, what? I can't charge $100 shipping for my .99cent circ 1958 wheatie? I just wanted it for insurance to make sure that the item got to the seller safely is all, no money grabbing here

Seriously, this is just silly, the whole shipping thing. If you are shipping overseas, that is one thing, but if you are greedy, that is another. It is nice to have coins, but it is better to have wisdom, as my signature alludes to. This hobby (coin collecting) is less fun if killjoys try to ruin it with stuff like this. It pays to be wise; if something, ANYTHING, about a listing or coin is fishy, be careful and don't go messing around. There are some pretty bad people out there who enjoy having your money in their pockets, so just be careful everyone

I would just request that the seller cancel the transactions, and go to the next highest bidder. If both sides agree to cancel the transaction, nobody takes a hit on feedback.

Osiris, the seller may escape receiving a negative feedback, but cancellation of the transaction will flag the bidder as a non-paying bidder, which may negatively impact their ability to bid on future items where sellers block non-paying bidders.

Actually Cancel Transaction won't but Unpaid will. Depends which choice the seller makes.

I've cancelled a couple of transactions for exactly this reason. No one has blocked me yet!
