@mts I agree won't accept offer of personal rep. Waiting to hear if you've seen the future?

Mts, will you please elaborate on what you mean by terms to restrictive. I think I know what you mean I just want to be certain! My rep Chantal is new to the position, she'd started a few day prior to calling me. I'd actually thought it was customer service calling to address a few issues I've had. This very new to me, and I'm wondering if my expectations are in line.
The strangest part is authorizing someone else to bill items to your credit card number. It was one of the first questions asked, to put my card no on the account. Shortly after that I started to have issues with my card, being charged for coins I hadn't okayed. I made the mistake of mentioning the coins I might be interested in, they started arriving. Then the computer glitch were the entire sacred teachings sub was sent out. My post office returned to sender, the next day but it took over 6 weeks for payment to get reversed. Others with Reps, do they have your credit card of file? This seems a strange practice!! I would think, once you select your coins you'd give your card number when each order is placed. Rather than having it on file. These are my newbie questions? I had made it clear I could be called anytime & didn't want coins arriving while I was away. I also stated that I'm careful too spread out my purchases, so not too many land in any 1 billing period.

@discovery, you have to wait a little bit longer, as there is no December release and it is too early for the January one. @pocket change 50, well, the first thing I asked If I would be able to continue placing my orders in an old way - through Mint's website. She responded that then she wouldn't be able to control my profile. I'm like - what?!? I thought the rep should help the customers with the purchases, not to have full control of their profiles! Of course I didn't say any of these things out loud. I politely asked her a few more questions, thanked her for the call and finally declined the offer. At the the end I asked her about the free coin, she responded that the Mint would send me a silver dollar which was currently not on their website. Well, I'm still waiting for it already for about 3 weeks. Btw, I was trying to find an image of this mysterious silver dollar, but I couldn't. Any help? On the side note, after that Mint stopped responding to all my emails, even after called their support nobody's responding. Coincidence?

@ Mts do you recall the Rep name? Wow what you've related is cause for concern. I'm starting to wonder if I'm too trusting. I accepted a rep, as I know many members who have them. Of course I don't know really how it's supposed to work, other than no ordering through the website! I wonder how many turn down the offers? It's scary having someone else at the helm of the account !! I know I've changed my approach, I'm not going to say anything about coins I may have an interest in. When I'm certain I want a coin I will order it. There will be no more discussion of what I'm considering. As I don't want it showing up!! It at first sounded like a good thing. I hate losing the ability to order through the web and cancel through website with no questions asked. The main thing that irks me, I've said three times I'm no longer interested in the Great Lakes coins. My rep continues to reserve me one!! I cancelled my sub prior to second coin. The rep is still bent on ordering me the last coin. I can get it at a reduced price, I'm certain of it. Maybe Reps were a great thing prior to finding all these discounts on RCM coins. It seems with all the other ways of obtaining coins Reps are redundant, in comparison to the days of no discounts. Could this be the RCM way of generating more sales. Thinking a rep will make you feel more important and you'll loosen the purse strings?

@mts the free coin is most likely a regular issue BU SD from last year. It's not on the website (for order) because it's archived but they have lots of them to give away - rather than melt. I don't think you would be getting any special coin that is unique to having a rep.
I also don't like that I can no longer order on-line. Frankly it takes longer to go to the website, look at the coins and decide what I want, leave the website and type out an e-mail to my rep. I never call because that would take even longer. The easiest thing for me would be to order directly from the website but that leaves my rep out of the equation.
So to make sure he has a job, I order through him. It's a small inconvenience that once upon a time was necessary in order to get 'hot' coins. Of course that 'benefit' is quickly disappearing if not totally gone.
I have no issue with having my CC on file. Paypal have it. As do other websites. It's certainly more secure being stored on their website than it is being sent by e-mail every time I ordered (doing that would be extremely foolish). And if you call in with your credit card number every order, your rep need only use a pen and some paper to record it if they wish to do something criminal. I've never had my rep order something that I didn't authorize and he always replies to my e-mail orders with an attached sales order confirmation.
Generally speaking, sales reps don't have access to the card information anyway because it's stored securely on the corporate server. Even when you view your own profile, you only see the last four digits of your CC. Your rep sees the same.

@pocket change 50, I do have her name as it is printed on the invitation, but it is not Chantal. @CC-Ottawa, thanks for the info about the coin, Honestly I didn't even count on anything special, it was just curiosity. Btw, I do keep my CC on file at RCM, but it was not that made me worry. I just don't want anyone would be able to make orders or cancel them on my behalf without my consent.

I hear ya but if you have an account with the mint, not having a rep wouldn't prevent any mint employee with access to accounts (presumably every personal account manager or regular CSR) from creating orders without your authorization. Maybe being assigned a rep who depends on making sales would make it more likely though since it introduces additional communication that sometimes gets lost in translation. I guess for me, e-mail provides a nice trail for my orders. If I every had an unauthorized order, I'd be speaking with someone other than my rep about. But what really bugs me is that since having a rep I NEVER get shipping notifications. Coins just show up at my door and I find that frustrating. I can't understand why the Mint can't send shipping notifications. They did it 5 years ago, and every other retail site that I buy from on the Internet manages to do it. That is my greatest complaint of the Mint and I voice it with them it whenever I can.

I ordered the $20 for $20 subscription directly online while my rep was out of commission for a few days and told him about it later. Nothing was said about that, what could he do? Aside from ordering extra and securing some back ordered/returned stuff when it becomes available, my go to' guy reminds me when new stuff is coming up that is related to other coins that I have bought. Too bad it doesn't mean I'll get them any earlier. I wouldn't have known what to do with the CSA $20 coin came in that I really wasn't impressed with . He promptly informed me of the return process and ensured that I got a shipping label for the box. First time I've ever had to send something back.

I appreciate everyone's comments. @ CC Ottawa, I really like your idea of ordering through email, and this is the approach I will take from now on exclusively. I have been doing email communication for the reasons you expressed. However, if something alarms my rep, I get a call within 5 mins or sooner. It amazingly fast how my ph rings. It's too bad other places don't have lightening service as my rep. I'm wondering how common her approach is? She likes to reserve coins I'm just considering? This is so they don't sell out! I don't get any email confirmation of orders placed in this manner. I have noticed eventually they do show up on my order history. I too don't get any heads up a coins coming they just appear at my door. Sometimes to sign for and other times no signing required The MAIN ISSUE for me is reduced control over when the darn coins are shipping! This is what I mean; I'm very careful to only order one or 2 monthly, if I see something I like. When the coins start to back log, I stop ordering them until I've got all and they are paid for. The new system, coins just show up, even if I was just at the stage of considering it. I done get any confirmation of order! When I asked to cancel all outstanding orders: there were several coins I was considering all ready ordered. Example the $1100 horse coin and 2 Oz train coin. Yes I would love to have these, however, I need to be certain I can pay for them first, without dipping into the grocery fund. I'm not going to go to the food bank, because I'm buying coins!! To me that's just wrong.
Hearing other people's experiences is very helpful too learn was is normal and what to expect.
@ Proof nut, when my rep discovered I'd ordered the Toonie 5 packs via the web; she cancelled them and reordered through herself. I didn't think there's any commission on FV coins. I was again politely and firmly reminded all orders must go through my rep. The other thing I find scare: my rep created a second account for me, so I was told, in order to buy 2 extra wolf 2015 proof coins. I had Pre sold 3 and wanted 1 for myself. It's a great coin, it came Tuesday. However, there's an account in my name with my credit card no, that I cannot see it's history. I didn't question it at the time; however I am concerned.
These are some of the newbie mistakes I've made. It's by hearing others experience I hope to make less mistakes!! Since I've now declined the sacred teaching sub, there's no free coin for signing with a rep. A little bate & switch. I had read of other forum members receiving a proof silver dollar when signing with a Rep. This is what I figured was happening. I had no idea I was committing to the other coins in sub!!
As to getting extra coins, this has not gone smoothly either. Second accounts created, while I could do that on my own!!

I very, very rarely ever communicate with my designated rep. I have no need to. If I want to order a coin (an increasingly rarer occurrence these days), I order directly from the mint's website. At least I can half expect some information to be posted about my orders. As far as lack of shipping notifications, having to call for tracking numbers and all the other BS customers have to put up with... Well what else can we expect from a monopoly Crown Corporation. P.S. Pocket Change, your rep has no right to cancel your web orders and reorder them just so she can earn the commission. This is disgraceful and unacceptable, not too mention not very nice!

Canada post is a monopoly cc too. Always get ship notifications. I expect at least the same from the Mint. But I'm always disappointed.

Thanks Numoosey, being new to having a rep, I really don't know what is acceptable behaviour for either of us. This is why I look for more informed opinions from those with experience. The other factor my gal was brand new to her position, when she added me as a client. We were both very excited by the new opportunity !!
It was until the computer glitch that sent me a bunch of coins I neither wanted or needed, that started me to rethink the value of a rep. I'm not in any class of a collector like you. There's no gold or kilo coins in my collection. This will be far in the future!! This is why I wonder at getting the invite even. My gal is swift at replying to emails: whether she calls or sends an email. I know it will go better, once I figure out how it works and where I'm making mistakes. It's this is not the appropriate time to be buying more than two coins; when I can get called any day between now and January for surgery. I've got to conserve money for the expenses it will cause. I know it must be hard working on commission. I wonder if they get a monthly salary and commissions just top it up? Or is it just flat commission ? Even when going into stores, I don't like being bugged by sales people; if I have any questions I seek out the sales clerk than.

Numoosey, am I correct your Rep never cancels the orders you place via the website? I don't care if my Rep cancels the web orders, and then places through herself as long as I get the coin. I just don't want coins, I haven't given an official ok to arrive. I've said at least twice I'm no longer interested in the last Great Lakes coin. My rep still has it reserved. I'd rather have 4-5 $25 flags instead. At least they are less likely to depreciate over the first several months. I guess it comes down to a learning curve!!
