NGC-Signs-Exclusive-Agreement-With-Major-League-Baseball™
The following is a press release from NGC

NGC-Signs-Exclusive-Agreement-With-Major-League-Baseball™NGC will encapsulate the National Baseball Hall of Fame commemoratives and other legal tender coins with attractive certification labels that feature a range of popular MLB trademarks.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) has been granted exclusive rights by Major League Baseball Properties (MLBP) to produce certification labels that feature the logos of MLB clubs and stadiums.

Baseball is known as "America's National Pastime" and enjoys a rich history that dates back more than 175 years. Steeped in tradition, baseball evokes more nostalgia among Americans than any other sport.

Major League Baseball traces its roots to 1869 and now includes 30 clubs in cities throughout the United States and Canada. MLB and its clubs boast some of the most devoted fans of any sport in the world.

These ardent baseball fans share much in common with coin collectors as demonstrated by the U.S. Mint's highly successful 2014 National Baseball Hall of Fame commemorative coins. The crossover appeal of baseball and coins resulted in the near-immediate sellout of the National Baseball Hall of Fame gold five dollars and silver dollars.

NGC and the exclusive MLB agreement present baseball fans and coin collectors with an exciting new opportunity to combine their passions for the sport and the hobby. NGC will encapsulate the National Baseball Hall of Fame commemoratives and other legal tender coins with attractive certification labels that feature a range of popular MLB trademarks, including the MLB silhouetted batter logo, the logos of the 30 clubs, stadium imagery, MLB All-Star Game logos and more.

"Americans have a special relationship with baseball that's built upon both the fond memories of the game's past and the thrilling new moments that it provides fans today," says Steven R. Eichenbaum, CEO of NGC. "NGC-certified coins with MLB labels not only appeal to coin collectors who follow baseball, but also to the millions of baseball fans who want a new and interesting way to show their devotion. This program has the potential to introduce countless baseball fans to the coin collecting hobby."

The first of these MLB labels will showcase 2014 National and American League Champions logos and the MLB World Series Champions logo. NGC-certified National Baseball Hall of Fame half dollars and American Silver Eagles with the MLB World Series Champions labels are available now from GovMint.com and SilverTowne.

Collectors should watch for a suite of new NGC labels featuring MLB logos, which will include a special program to coincide with MLB Opening Day on April 6, 2015. More details will be announced by NGC later this year.

Will they EVER stop trying to find some new cruddy label to try and get collectors to buy more and more of the exact same coin?

"Sure you have a Baseball HOF coin but you only have one! You need all 27 labels you can get it with!"

Is there any difference between them?

"There sure is! The coin is the same but each and every paper label is different from all the others. how can your collection be complete if you don't have all 27?"

What does an ASE have to do with baseball? I could understand the initial MLB Hall of Fame labels for the HOF Commemorative coins, but this is just going to muddy the waters in my opinion. Call me a simpleton, but I like the classic brown labels, if I get a slabbed coin.

Oh, by the way, I read earlier today that NGC is charging more money to grade a Gold Kennedy if it grades a 70.

I personally have a "who cares" attitude with coins struck after 1964.
BUT with that said,
I do understand that there are plenty of collectors that are not in a position to be able acquire some of the coins that I buy ... or care to.
That's not a knock on them; it's just the way it is.
You will never hear me bad-mouthing those people.

But something like this labeling thing from NGC pushes me even further into a "who cares" attitude.
BUT "whatever rows your boat".

As long as people are willing to spend extra money for these items, the tpgs will keep on selling them.
