This appears to be a Rim to Rim Crack in early stages. The upper portion is quite faint. Correct me if I am wrong about it. My understanding is that this is the kind of feature which may or may not develop into a Retained Cud.

I am far from an expert, but from the scratches on the reverse, to me it just looks like a damaged coin. Something squashed the rim in that area

I can't really tell from the photos. In the close-up pic, it looks like damage, especially because the L looks like it got run over by something.

When I enlarged the full obverse photo, ....well, that looked quite a bit different. Still, it looks as though it could be metal displaced by impact.

Looks like it was flattened in that area leaving the rim altered on your coin. PSD
