1855 Large Cent - Is This A "details" Coin?

scottk Pillar of the Community United States 767 Posts	Posted 12/26/2014 1:24 pm Not mine. I've been watching this one because it has both slanted 5s and the knob on ear thingy. I want a coin with both of those attributes, and this would knock out 2 birds with one stone, but... Are all those rim dings enough to make it a details coin? Thanks Report this Post to the Staff

Mikey07nj Valued Member United States 498 Posts	Posted 01/01/2015 2:31 pm I believe what Vermont said that bump goes through the reverse and will definatlely get a details grade. Some coins like my 16/16 buffalo I sent to pcgs had a big mold spot and scratches on face came back VG 10 they discounted the grade rather than detail because of rarity. I would keep looking depending on price but to give you a gage a slabbed ngc au details cleaned is asking $195. And I think cleaned if far better than all that's going on with your coin Report this Post to the Staff
Celticsoul Pillar of the Community United States 1566 Posts	Posted 01/01/2015 3:08 pm A lot of copper coins have rim bumps. Some more than others. As a copper collector I prefer unslabbed coins so I don't care what the TPGs say. Rim bumps really do affect the price of a copper coin though and I try to avoid them if possible. The 55 knob ears are fairly expensive but I would hold off and look for a problem free coin. Report this Post to the Staff
