Let's see how you guys would grade this coin. It has a nice nice, fairly even chocolate brown colour - no planchet defects besides weakness on lower reverse. For those who are up to it - please venture a TPG grade vs an EAC grade. Thanks.

Tough one. I am not up to the eac grade. I would venture f15 for the TPG? Nice color.

Nice one! Denticles make me think large planchet.... is this one struck on Talbot, Allum & Lee cent?....lettered edge?

Thank you, guys.
Amida17, this is a C-2, plain edge. I see no trace of an under-type, but you are correct - the denticles do seem broader than usual making it look like it was struck from a cut down large cent.
Grade wise - I agree it is a tough one.

A TPG would probably call it a VG10 when in fact, IMO, it makes F12-15.

F-15, and a strong one at that.

I will say it would grade VG-10 maybe F-12 at a TPG. I will venture a guess the EAC grade will be around VG-8. In this grade some issues like marks and off color are allowable that otherwise wouldn't in higher grades. The problem is there really isn't much to net the coin down. Surfaces are smooth, no marks or other problems that wouldn't be tolerated at this grade, and the color looks pretty good. The black streaks on the obverse may net it down one grade but I think that is about it. The weakness on the reverse looks like it has something to do with strike. Very nicely chosen like the all your other coins!

Wow! I agree with virtually all that's been posted so far. Quote:Very nicely chosen like the all your other coins! I would say a TPG would grade this beauty at F-15.

My initial thought was F12 but I can see it pushing 15. Nice original 18th century coin. EAC would knock it to VG8 due to the discoloration on the obverse and weakly struck reverse. Thanks for sharing it
