I looked at some images of 1924 cents. the crossbar of the "4" on a 24 cent is higher than the base of the adjacent "2". I think Jamez nailed it. But I wouldn't want to invest in a coin where the most important digit of the date is as problematic as this one. Some good deals just aren't.
