Not sure of the mint but I believe it's WYH
30 mm x 4.10 grams

Man I got the Siliqua bug, and you must have come down with the Sassanid bug too .

It may? have been clipped, but the design is all there for full attribution

is that little star pattern left of the head a countermark?

Thanks Chris, yeah I've been working on build a Sassanian collection. These are the cheaper ones so I can pick up one or two a month. No counter mark on this one what you are seeing is part of his headdress.

I like this drachm and I am particularly fond of this reverse type. Not only is Kavad an interesting ruler but your coin is pretty cool too.

Your coin is the same year as mine although a different mint. As far as the coin being clipped I would say its possible but if they did clip it it was done very well or the flan was trimmed at the mint, I am unsure if this was done before or after it was struck. I have seen some examples with a big planchet, but they also tend to have some fault in the center. Suggesting that maybe the type was llowed to keep its large flan because the weight was correct. Your coin and my coin could both have been heavy to being with or just struck as it should have been. I would like to seem more examples of the type in hand.
