Get real friendly with the commercial teller at your bank if possible, if you need more than a couple rolls of anything I would wait in line for the commercial teller. If they do not routinely order half dollars then you might ask them to order you a box- make sure you can buy the whole 500$ box, or explain you will get a few rolls every week.
I never return the rolled coins to the same bank I got them at and that seems to work .
If I am driving out of town I sometimes stop in at various banks and ask for halves, some have them, some don't , and some will not give you anything unless you are a customer. Smaller town banks can be great for customer rolled coins and I have had the best luck finding silver in those rolls. It seems the rolls from the fed have less and less silver these days.
As for finding anything after 2001, I have looked through about 4000 dollars in halves this year and found only five coins dated later than 2001, but you never know what's in there until you tear it open ! The thrill of the chase and the occasional score keeps it fun !
